Caldwell Lead Sled FCX Adjustable Ambidextrous Recoil Reducing Rifle Shooting Rest for Range, Shooting Stability, Sight In and Outdoors

Very nice item and well designed and built. However (and there is always a however) the unit does move back about an inch when firing a .308 rifle, if you only use 1x 25 lb ballast bag. I plan to get a second bag and see if that does the trick, which it probably will. The controls on this product are excellent and it is very easy to bring the cross hairs onto the target, usinfgthe joystick. Personally, I feel the main function of this sled is to enable quick and easy sighting in. I found it a bit awkward for regular shooting, although, even with a .308, felt recoil is almost zero. I think the solution may be to dispense with regular ear protection and to use in-ear alternatives, so one's head can move into the correct location when shooting. Once i get set up in this way, i feel the sled will probably come into its own as a shooting base.

This sled makes sighting in a rifle a real pleasure. It does everything as described. I was able to sight in a newly mounted scope with 4 rounds at 100 yards. The only downfall of the system is the supplied weight bag. As we were fillimg the bag with lead shot using a hose and funnel while the bag was resting on the floor, (as per instrustions) the botton seam burst spilling the lead shot. This weight bag is poorly made. Only one row of stitching. Do not trust it. I had to cut the bag open to get the rest of the shot out. Now I just use the bags the shot came in, which works pretty good. Called the manufacturer and they are sending a replacement weight bag which I won't use unless I get it double stitched. Probably still won't trust it. I put a 25 pound bag of shot in the front of the sled and the other on the tube that goes to the stock rest. Together they do the job. Because of the versitility and ease of use, I still rate this sled 5 stars. Same price everywhere but free shipping through Amazon.

Yes it was pricey but if u buy quality u cry once. It is well designed and makes sighting in a breeze. Yes it is going to move when u fire a 300 mag and u are going to have to reposition, but I have not see a rest where you wouldnt. This rest just makes it more easy to get back on target. I had none of the problems filling the bag with lead shot that other reviewers mentioned and the bag appears to be well constructed and should last. I was surprised at how much lead shot cost. I paid about $60 dollars including tax for 25# bag of #8 shot at Bass Pro. Al-in-all this system is exactly what I have been looking for. I am just glad I could afford it, I am sure many will not be willing to pay that much.

Very Expensive. Works Well but requires adjusting hex screws with rifle in mount for final adjustments. I used it once, it did its Job but that was really expensive for a single use

While this is a solid rest, for this kind of cash it should be perfect. The two major problems I encountered was the placement of the adjustment arm and the weight bag design and position on the rest. The adjustment arm works as described, but unfortunately it doesn't work well with all rifle types. I found it getting in the way of my AR while using a 30 round mag, making adjustment a pain in the butt. It's a great idea, but it should have been offset to allow for one of the most popular rifles at the range. The weight bag will hold a maximum of 49# of lead, and for long days at the range shooting muzzleloaders and heavy magnums, that weight takes the punishment, not your shoulder. Unfortunately, once you fill it up it interferes with the vertical adjustment, cutting it down by at least half or more. So, in order to use the full range of adjustment, the bag can only be filled with about 30-35 pounds. Again, this is a very expensive rest and these issues should have been worked out before it hit the shelves. As a side note, I used the rest to shoot a .44 mag revolver and the gas escaping from the cylinder gap blew a hole into the rest bag after 5 rounds, very dissapointing.

This is the best adjustable sled so far for my AR. I shoot mainly AR style receivers so it's been a challenge finding a sled that actually fits well without modifications.The Lead Sled DFT was ok if your using the thinner USGI or 10-20rd polymer magazines otherwise a standard polymer 30rd mag will bottom out on the rail system. The offset design of Lead Sled Solo was good for large mags but requires full length buttstocks and lacks adjustability.This brings us to the FCX which works very well and allows more then enough adjustability which is really nice. I really like the joystick system and have had no issues with slop. This is a great sled for precision shooting.

The sled is great, however due to a shoulder injury in was really counting on being able to use the weighted bag. However it is impossible to fill the bag, apparently there's two chambers and good luck finding the right chamber, and they don't include a funnel to fill it either. I cannot find a funnel like the one they use in photos of directions. Even of i could, I have no clue if I'm in the right chamber, I haven't been able to find the right chamber yet. What a fiasco. You'd think they just sew the wrong chamber shut, but what do I know
