No there is no zip to add more beads.

No. In all honesty, it wasn't even that soft. A day before mine arrived, I went to Wilko and saw one of these pillows, just without a hoodie. That was way better than this one.

I Read the description, it says spot clean only. Hope that helps?

Q: Would this be too big for an 8 year old?

Possibly. I bought it for a 12 Yr old and was plenty of room for him.
