Valvoline synthetic - what professionals use. GL-5 with limited slip additive. 5 stars!
I've used Valvoline sythentic oil in many applications for over forty years. Valvoline is a top notch A+ grade lubricant, not some cheapo over-hyped and over-rated snake oil.I used this particular GL-5 rated sythetic (with limited slip additive) in a BMW E36, and it meets or exceeds all BMW requirements. Works great, and better protection than stock 75W-90 when driven hard, towing or in hot environments. Thanks to the limited slip additive, the pos-unit is smooth and gradual, not chattery. The limited slip additive is in the package, no extra costs or mixing required. NOTE: If you don't HAVE limited slip, no problem. The Valvoline limited slip additive is harmless to non-posi differentials, so you can use it in either application without any concern. Finally, a small but significant detail is that the Valvoline container style makes actually putting the lubricant into the rear axle of the BMW very very easy. No hoses or pumps required! Drain the old gear oil from the bottom port. Close it up and retorque the drain plug. Now, open up the top port and squirt the oil in with this squeeze style bottle. Retorque the fill nut, you're done.Works fantastic - didn't spill a drop, and absolutely no hoses or pumps required. A simple no-nonsense solution to what can be a messy problem, and a GREAT synthetic gear oil from a real old-school oil company - one that actually operates real refineries. (unlike so many other snake-oil style gear oils and engine oils, which come from people who don't own or operate actual refineries...I bet you didn't know that, eh? HINT: BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc. do NOT refine anything. They SPECIFY, and then real refineries make their product for them.) Just personal taste, but I'd rather buy from the source, as opposed to a vendor who bought it for me (with markup included, of course - plus advertising and marketing)Go Valvoline - you can't go wrong.

Change your Differential oil with this
Works great. I changed my Differential fluid at 80,000 on my 2017 Ford Mustang GT M/T and used this fluid since the Flexible quart bottle was super easy to get into the fill area of the Differential. I purchased 3 Quarts. I ended up using 1 Quart to flush all the old stuff fluid out. Then it was about 2 Quarts to fill the Differential up. It contains the Limited Slip Differential additive so no need to purchase it separately. This was Cheaper and I feel like it performs better than the Motorcraft fluid + Additive.

Pricey but convenient
Pricey but for the ease of use it’s worth the money. Yes you can purchase a reusable squeeze bag at a cheaper cost but this worked well for me. Used it on my 2023 Kia sportage hybrid in the rear differential and transfer case.

Worth the price!
This squeeze bag is slighlty more expensive but well worth it if your gearbox is even remotely difficult to access. The aftermarket bottle pumps are fine but a nasty mess to clean up after, this is straightforward, simple and easy cleanup. I have a 2003 V8 4Runner and all 3 gear boxes are a pain to fill with a normal bottle, this bag is an awesome alternative. I threw away my old grimy bottle pump after switching to these bags.

Great stuff and easy to work with.
Used in my 2020 Abarth 124 Spider and the limited slip differential (LSD) runs fine. 10/10 I'd buy again (and have). Comes wrapped in clear plastic in case it does leak.

Easy to refill the differential!
Bought 3quarts to replace the gear oil on my 21 f150 rear differential. Great quality oil, and the flexible pouches made refilling a breeze! Would use again for future maintnance!

Get the “bag version”
The oil itself is great, but unless you’re going to be using small quantities at a time and storing the bottle, get the newer bagged versions. This is only good if you have easy access to where you’re pouring in, and 95% of the time you’re filling a differential with terrible access. Bagged FTW.

Keeps a good Elastohydrodynamic film
I’m running this oil in the rear end of a 1989 Dodge Dakota with an 8.25 Chrysler differential. It came from the factory with 80w-90 but upon researching, this 75w-140 seems to be the best option. I will say I am very impressed with this gear oil. The previous oil had 14 years on it. When I put this new oil in there, the difference was amazing. Shifting gears was smoother, acceleration was better, and I’m willing to bet that my fuel economy will be much better too! So needless to say, this is a good product and is definitely keeping the helical gears separated.
