SalusRT310 Thermostat, White, One Size

Q: If I understand it correctly the thermostat has a dip switch on the back you can set to a total on off span/range of .5 or 1 degree is this correct?

Yes and no. DIP set to +/-0.25° has a span of 0.5° (set to 20, turns heat on 19.7 stops at 20.2). The other DIP switch setting is TIP where you can then set the other switch to 6 or 9, which means there is a TIP algorithm to control the temp, 6 or 9 times/hour. But that one messes up the boiler on and off like crazy. If your hoping for a larger span, I don't recommend it. Though 0.5° span is way better than what I had before, which was like 0.1° and would set the boiler on and off too often.

Q: Does this thermostat emit a loud clicking noise, like the honeywell dt90e, when switching the heating off / on? or is it virtually silent?

There is a "click" sound, as you would expect - bearing in mind there is effectively an internal contactor to switch the load. It is a sound not unlike when you switch a conventional light switch off or on. It is not overly loud or obtrusive. I have installed 6 of these in my house (ground floor - underfloor heating: Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room, Study, Hall, plus one on the landing controlling first floor radiators. No issues at all. Hope this helps

It is wise to employ an electrical contractor. Any wiring carried out by an unqualified person could lead to legal problems and possible disqualification of insurance in the event of accident or fire.
