Yes the beads can be used right out of the box we didn’t have to do anything special

Q: how long does this item is design to last before replacing?

I have had several (from different sellers) and unfortunately the longest one lasted was just under a year while the shortest was two months. Sometimes the beads are the same price as the shower head with beads and since it is a simple replacement (unscrew, remove tape residue, wrap new tape on threading, screw new shower head on) I have begun buying the set when new beads are needed. It is important to fill the handle with as many beads as possible so they don’t erode as quickly during use.

The water pressure is greater than ever.

Q: Can these be used for a pet fountain ?

I don’t see why you couldn’t. They seem to be made of small volcano rock type stones.
