Takes the stress out of parenting.
A must read for all parents! A very practical guide on what to say when facing a situation with your child that usually leads to a power struggle. This book teaches a parent what to say to his/her child that fosters respect between both of you. It really works! You'll want to keep this book close by at all times so you can reference it when you don't know how to respond to a frustrating situation.I wish I had found this book sooner, but it is never too late to start building a healthy relationship with your child.

Life Changing Read
This book changed my life in 2005 when I was going through a divorce with two young children who really only remember Mommy telling daddy to leave. Life as we all new it was changed and the kids became very difficult - this book opened up my eyes to not only deal with my children but has taught me life long lessons about how to talk to people so they will listen. The exercises opened my eyes to just how changing how I worded a sentence to someone could change how they responded to what I was asking. I now recommend this book to every single parent I meet. I made this purchase to have an extra on hand because I lend my other one out so often. I would purchase this book again and again.

Used for Class/Kept for Collection
This book is really good. It teaches you a lot about parenting styles and how to have a conversation with your child. There are activities that parents can do in the book and there is allotted writing space. I used the book for class, so I did not use those activities, but I did keep it. It is really informative. You could be an absolutely amazing parent and you will find at least one thing in here that you could improve on to better you're listening and communicating skills with your child.

Brilliant
Even though my children have grown up and left home now, I used this when they were young.I only wish I'd had it from the beginning, as I had no idea how hard parenting can be when you want to negotiate and not bully your child. I use this sometimes when teaching students (particularly those with English as a second language) who are taking their diploma in Child Studies as the graphics are refreshing, making it easier to understand complex information.

Best I've ever seen great for coworkers too
Wonderful skills for kids, great for co-workers and family. Short and simple book, among the most valuable I've read. Took me from clueless about kids to a favorite confidant, and now I know how rewarding that can be. An important side benefit is that I can now get better better cooperation, partly because when I don't it's because I am wrong and now have a way to figure that out and correct it. The skills I learned serve me well with family and at work in ways I could not have predicted. Simple powerful communication skills. The Gold Standard for parenting.

How can I be the first to write a reveiw for this classic?
Wow. I think this great, if not fabulous, book was written in the late 70's. Personally, I think that it should be required reading for all parents. Seriously, the gov't gives you a tax deduction for having a child but doesn't require you to learn how to parent to get it. Silly. There are more people taking dog obedience school then parenting class. (Silly)All I can say is you will have better, more well adjusted children after implementing this information and you will have a better relationship with them, be happier and feel better.Yes, 5 stars.

Happy families talk not yell
This is perhaps the best book I have read for learning how to talk to my children and it has helped me refrain from physical punishment and yelling! We have become so busy that we forget to stop and listen, this book helps you create a wonderful connection with your children
