Love It!
Mechanical sewing machines are so much better than electronic. I've had two of each and the mechanical last far longer and sew more evenly and are much easier to adjust and they are more dependable. I love this machine.

Great machine
I like this machine so much, I own 2, A white one purchased in 2020, and now a black one. No computer to take a crap, just a good ole fashioned mechanical sewing machine.

Broke immediately, no service
Brand new machine. After about a half hour of sewing medium-heavy canvas, during which time it worked fine, made a nice zigzag stitch, the machine went CLUNK. And stopped. Hand wheel rotates one way and stops, rotates back and stops. Tried all controls, no dice. Machine is broken internally.Called my local Janome dealer from the website, Bob's Sewing and Vacuum in ABQ, NM, and the rather hostile employee informed me that if I didn't buy it from them, they will charge me for service despite their being the only dealer in town, and the new machine still being under its one-year warranty. It's nearly impossible to get in touch with Janome through their website, which includes a contact form that does nothing when you hit "Submit," does not let you know that your message has been sent, let alone received.Found a number for Janome elsewhere online. Their number is not even on their website, which really ought to tell you something... They're not there for the customer! Finally, I got a call back from A Janome rep, who explained that their dealers have no obligation to perform warranty service unless the machine was purchased directly from them. So, she said, I could feel free to send the machine back to Janome, and pay shipping both ways to receive warranty service. I think this is absurd, and totally unacceptable. I'll never buy another Janome product, as in my opinion the machine is junk, the service is junk, and the dealer network is a joke. Good luck; guess I'll invest in a Juki and have a real machine with an actual guarantee that I'll never have to use because it's a quality machine, not a piece of consumer garbage built to break immediately. Good luck. The dealer in Santa Fe said they would do warranty work, which is apparently a favor. Okay, I'll go get this POS fixed and sell it asap. Totally disgusted.

Quite the little power machine
I've been sewing for many years but not much industrial sewing. I bought this to add surf pockets to our boat bimini. This involves sewing heavy canvas with heavy weight thread and heavy sewing needles. I have enough experience with machines that the few tension issues I ran into I was able to fix pretty quickly. There is a fair amount of tension adjustment. When I used this to sew a thinner material for blind backing, I had tension issues similar to some other reviewers. So, while his machine works great on heavy materials, I won't use it on lighter weight materials. When sewing the bimini, at times I was going through 7 layers of canvas + exterior reinforcement vinyl. If crossing over perpendicular seams I sometimes slowed and turned the needle by hand, but otherwise I used the presser foot. It's true this machine doesn't have bells and whistles, but I have another machine for those. I was able to transition from 1 to the 7+ layers without much tension adjustment, if any. I used Schmetz 18/110 and 16/100 needles that said made for home machines and had no issues with their size. I did add the walking foot attachment. I'm 100% sure I couldn't have done this project without it. It says for quilting only, but it worked. I also have an external bobbin stand for the Selric UV Resistant High Strength Polyester Thread #69 T70 Size 210D/3 (V Resistant High Strength Polyester Thread #69 T70 Size 210D/3 (purchased on Amazon). I ran it through the machine, set the stand to the side and set the lid down but did not push it closed. Conclusion: For this price point this machine is fantastic. Comparable industrial machines cost $1,000+. I would definitely buy it again.

Did the Canvas Work I bought It for
We had a few canvas projects on our boat and we wanted to do them ourselves and save money. We were very close to getting a Sailrite, but I thought we should give a "heavy duty" sewing machine a try first, and the black version was only $270 when I bought it. I have used it for drapes, cushions and repairing canvas enclosures, and it has done really well. That was with V92 thread and #18 needle. A walking foot would definitely be nice, but until we hit something this won't handle, we will keep using it. I agree with others, I don't much like the black color as it is hard to see your work, but the machine itself has been great to work with. I do not do a lot of sewing, but after watching Youtubes and then trying the the same things on the Janome, everything worked. I never felt like the machine wasn't strong enough. And I was able to match the lengths and stitch styles as well as play with the tension to get quality stitches. Even though it isn't a walking foot, it still does a good job feeding the fabric. For large stuff, like our enclosures, you just need plenty of room and you carry carry the fabric along some to avoid having the machine trying to drag it through.
