A iterative, if minor improvement over the original
The original Focus Timer did what it set out to do: provide a tactile, peaceful, intuitive timer that was not only functional but added a sense of delight to the process. You can get cheaper timers than this, and if that's the primary concern, I can't recommend this timer. But for the price you get a portable, well made, enjoyable experience, one that help ground you and provide a ritual start to a routine. This is not markedly different than the original kickstart version. But it does improve in small ways:- The matte material is soft to the touch and looks better. Feels more grippy. In identical lighting, the light is more diffuse, with no harsh specular highlights.- The chime is different. Whether it's an improvement or not is completely subjective, but it is slightly lower (oddly, a tritone, which when together they can sound unsettling). There's better signal-to-noise ratio, so the chime itself is less gritty and smoother. The harmonics of it sound better to me, though I still think those could be more pleasing. Not sure if that's the sound itself or the resonance of the device.- a better countdown experience <20. The original would stay at 20 until it reached 10, whereas the next will immediately start with 19 once you flip it over (because the timer is at 19:59) Why this couldn't be some kind of firmware update, I'm not sure — but they might do that in the future.- It seems to be slightly better at flipping. Part of the magic is the experience of turning to set, and flipping to start and stop. The original sometimes registers a turn when you flip. This iterations seems to be much better at NOT doing that — it will flip without changing the timer.I use the timer all the time for writing, work, or just keeping myself on task. I could have just used my phone, or bought some cheap digital timer, and that would have done the job. But I enjoy using this, and I find it keeps me honest more.My only wish is that they somehow, someday, make the battery replaceable. Perhaps by removing the power button and putting another in it. Because once that goes, this is sort of a paperweight. I assume it will work forever plugged in but that partially obstructs the experience of turning to set, which everyone I know agrees it is the most magical part of the whole idea.

Great to look at, great to touch, great to use
I feel like this product was made in my dreams, and I couldn't believe when I came upon it in reality at Amazon. It does and it does it well. I use it in the classroom where the students are delighted by its novelty and can set it easily. For classroom use, the chime is a little soft when multiple people are talking in a large room, but it's plenty loud when one person is talking at the front of the classroom.

Good for meditation and work
I was looking for a timer for both work and meditation. I especially wanted something with a gentle chime instead of harsh beeping. I came across this product because it is by the same person as the slim fold wallet. I watched the video online and purchased the version 2 on Amazon. The chime sound is perfect. Noticeable yet relaxing. You can set the volume but not much else.It is very convenient to be able to flip it over for another interval. The feel of setting it by rotating and flipping to start is a nice physical ritual. You can pause the timer by flipping it on its side. The animations and colors are very comforting and helpful (e.g. the countdown is smooth, and when active the rings gently pulse).I knocked off one star because I feel like for this price there should be more. Maybe let us customize the sounds or the animations or change the colors or adjust the brightness, perhaps through an app? Also, a little more heft would make it feel a little less like a toy and more like a real hour glass. One thing people should know is that this can’t be set to just any arbitrary time between 1 and 100 minutes. You can set 1 to 20 in one-minute increments, then it goes to five-minute increments 25 up to 60 minutes, then changes to 10-minute increments from 60 up to 100. So if you want to set it to something like 37 minutes or 65 minutes you should look for something with fine-grained settings.

This timer is amazing!
I almost never leave a review but this time I felt the need to do so. I think this product is perfect in every way. I love the way of setting it, I love the chime, and I love pausing it by laying it on its side if I'm in the middle of a task and I want to go off script for a minute or I have to visit the bathroom and read a book for a while. It's just 1,000,000 times better and more convenient than using an app on a phone. In my opinion, it is worth every penny and it's probably the best purchase I've made in the last decade. Here's a bit of wisdom. Instead of setting a big goal like, "I will make my whole house tidy and neat, the way I want it to be, and then I will keep it that way," do this instead: Just get into the habit of working on tidying it up for half an hour at a time, six times a week...Use the timer, and put yourself on task when it's counting down. If you follow that method, you'll end up cleaning your house for 3 hours a week and in 2 or 3 months your entire house will be neat and tidy and you will have formed a reasonable habit that ensures it will stay that way.Always remember (I write this for my own edification as much as for yours, dear reader) that success is achieved in life never by merely having goals, but only by establishing good habits that predictably contribute toward achieving one's goals.
