Non-functional
This is not a functional instrument. It's turns out that rubbing nylon bow strings against nylon strings doesn't produce any sound... you can kind of pluck the strings and they sound like those little toy guitars that don't really work, but its' still super quiet.Even if the bow and strings were replaced, I have no confidence that this would ever have much volume as the body is about a third the size of the ones I've played in Nepal, and the good ones aren't even that loud to begin with. their are other issues with the quality that would negatively effect the sound, if it made any sound. It seems in many ways to have been made by a skilled wood worker that has seen sarangis and may have some photos for reference, but doesn't actually have any idea how a sarangi supposed to work, or what areas are important as the roughest quality is in the most vital areas. This is a 30$ value decoration, not an almost 200$ musical instrument.
