VTX works good for ground robot applications
This is a review for the Yoidesu 1.2GHz VTX, 1.6W Video Transmitter Module, 1.2GHz Frequency Band.I ordered the VTX to use on a ground robot application for a work project. I needed a decent VTX that would penetrate a little better than 2.4GHz, and this one fit that need. I plan to use the robot to go into forested areas at a long distance. I used a cheap analog receiver and Foxeer analog camera, which works without much fuss. I used the splitter cable for FPV RC Truck applications and a couple of other workarounds to adapt to my application. I am a bit concerned about heat dissipation since this is on a ground robot and not an aerial drone, so I may add a fan to the robot to help with cooling. It did a walk-through range test, and it managed to penetrate deep enough into the forest for my application, around half a mile. I used the antenna that came with the VTX. Of course, there isn’t much foliage since it’s wintertime, so summer results may vary. This was also a pretty flat area. The value of this VTX is about the same as others you’d find, but maybe on the high side. Also, in the U.S., you are supposed to have a HAM radio license to broadcast on 1.2GHz. Most people don’t, but just something to be aware of if you are using this for work or business.
