Callebaut Chocolate Callets Semisweet (small discs) 53.8% cacao 2 lbs

I bought this chocolate to cover some homemade Thin Mint cookies. The recipe comments said not to use regular chocolate chips, as they are made not to melt well, and suggested Callebaut. I had no idea. This is the best semi-sweet chocolate I've ever tasted. Smooth, rich, and divine. And it melts into a perfect chocolate for enrobing.I kept it warm in a glass bowl set over a pot of hot water, and dipped my cookies one by one using a fork, and then tapped the fork gently against the edge of the bowl to get the excess chocolate off. I ended up with the most perfect cookies. The chocolate layer was thin and even, and they set up beautifully.I still have 2 lbs of chocolate left. I'm going to have to consider very carefully what to do with it, and who is deserving enough to have some.Seriously - best chocolate *ever*.

Superior flavor and texture to any supermarket chocolate chips for baking cookies or for recipes that call for semisweet chocolate that will be melted and mixed into a batter for example. While I can get various brands of bulk/block gourmet chocolate in local stores (including Callebaut, Valrhona etc.), the shards and flakes get ALL OVER the place if I have to chop it up for a recipe, not to mention my hand gets sore from pressing the knife through hard chocolate so many times. These "callets" (chips) are the same taste and quality as the block without any of the mess and effort. I've done side by side taste comparisons to all available supermarket semisweet chocolate chips (Hershey's, Nestle's, Ghiradelli, and a few random 'natural' or gourmet brands I came across) and the Callebaut is far superior, it's not even a close contest. I find myself constantly reaching in and grabbing a handful to eat if the bag is open, I love the taste and texture.

Excellent quality chocolate

Let me begin by saying that at my local Whole Foods, a mere pound of this chocolate sells for $18.99. Naturally it was a no brainer to buy them here instead. I've been using Callebaut for two years now and never looked back; the Ghirardelli stuff from the grocery store tastes like wax in comparison. This was my first time buying it online, and as another reviewer noted, the packaging is the best I've seen. I bought four pounds and it arrived in a small box. Each 2lb package was padded with those little air pillows, wrapped in 1/4" thick insulation, came with its own ice pack and bagged in heavy duty plastic. I opened one but I'm keeping the second package as is, all wrapped up, in my freezer until I need it because it'll last for years like this. SOLD.

This product is great as usual. Most people know callebaut chocolate so I wont elaborate on that. HOWEVER what i will elaborate on is the seller.I have never ordered meltable or perishable items online that have ever came to me in any kind of usable condition. BUT, culinary direct packaged this stuff so well that even after 5 days on a ground shipment from California to North Carolina, by the time I finally got through the packaging, the tape, the bubble pack, the ice pack, the chocolate inside was unmarred and not a single disc had even smudged the outside of the packaging. I can NOT believe the amount of care that went into this package and the fact that even with such a small amount they took the time to provide the best product experience.

The package arrived very well wrapped with ice packs and even though the packs were melted, the chocolate was in perfect condition as you can see from the pictures. The chocolate tempered very easily and made beautiful german chocolate cake balls. I was also very impressed with the smooth and velvety chocolate flavor. It tasted closer to a dark chocolate which I prefer. I will definitely be purchasing this chocolate again!

The taste was less than I had hoped for. A new recipe I was trying called for these, but my regular Ghirardelli will work just as well. These are expensive, so I won't order them again.

The chocolate arrived quickly and the quality is perfect! Great for baking or snacking. Customer service was awesome too. I emailed them with a question about tracking and they responded well within 24 hours. Will definitely use again.
