I've been using teaching ideas books by Penny Ur since my early days of teacher training, and this one continues the great tradition of super practical, instantly usable advice for beefing up your MFL classroom game.There's an excellent range of activities that cover all axes - word, sentence and text level, as well as the four skills reading, writing, listening and speaking. The book is organised neatly around those skills, and I honestly don't think there's a dud one in here - it really is 100 solid ideas for packing out a lesson plan.I work with chiefly with French, German and Spanish, and everything is easily applicable - likewise, it would be an excellent resource for EFL teaching and others.With the great education writing pedigree, it's just solid, practical ideas from a name many of us are happily familiar with from past publications. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to new and experienced teachers, as there'll be something in there for every classroom. Great stuff.

I ordered this book as my wife (who is reasonably fluent in Spanish) is leading a group of Seniors to gain conversational skills in the language. I recognise that as the book is aimed at 'Teachers' in a formal classroom environment, my review and rating may not as valuable to as it could be as, in the circumstances I have described, my wife is not really part of the target audience (she is assisting learners in an informal setting.The book does not, of course, use foreign language and, as the content can be applied to any language, it relies on the Teacher for this aspect. Instead, the book focuses (as the title suggests) on activities that can make learning more interesting for the student and therefore aid development.The most useful sections/activities of the book in my opinion are the those on Vocabulary and Grammar but formally trained users may have a different view. Overall, I think the book gathers together in one place, interesting suggested activities that can probably be found in a number of separate books.
