The Haunted Mask (Goosebumps Graphic Novel #1)

This is a classic Goosebumps tale brought to life for a new modern generation. The Haunted Mask is not just a fan favorite story for folks who love the series but also R.L Stine's favorite Goosebumps book. It was based on a true story involving his son getting his head stuck in a frankenstein mask. For those who don't know the book is about a girl named "Carly Beth" who's fed up with being bullied because she gets scared all the time. So on Halloween she wants to be scary and get her revenge by wearing a mask. For the sake of spoilers I won't share what happens to her. You have to read it to find out. The illustrations are both comical and creepy. It is appropriate for kids. The book does have some gross humor but most can handle it. It's very faithful to the original source material. I highly recommend it. Readers beware you're in for a scare.

The Haunted Mask has been my favorite Goosebumps book for as long as I can remember, and I was so excited to get my hands on this new adaptation! Not only did it not disappoint, but it exceeded my expectations in every way and is now a treasured classic in my Goosebumps collection!This graphic novel feels like a love letter to both the original book and the 90s TV episode! The art is incredible with wonderful expressions, and the attention to detail in both the art and including specific things from the book (like the Shopkeeper's Dracula cape for example!) help make this adaptation amazing. It also really captures Goosebump's blend of horror and comedy with plenty of hilarious panels juxtaposed with some tense scenes and frightening masks!There is also a really neat section in the back where the artist shares a few extra comic strips, some of the background of creating this graphic novel, and a surprise appearance from Goosebump's original mascot!I would recommend this graphic novel to parents who have an adventurous reader that can handle some frightening images and situations and anyone who has fond memories of the original book and TV special! I look forward to reading this novel as part my annual Halloween festivities.

My daughter loved this book! The graphics are nice, she finished reading in about 2 hours!

Stine presents a nicely dark scary kids story, well illustrated, with an unexpected finish!

My son loved this book. It was in comic book style. Definitely well made for kids.

Possibly the best adaptation of R.L. Stine’s classic Goosebumps story ever made. If you love the original book or tv special from the 90’s, give this Goosebumps graphic novel a chance. 10/10

I purchased this to help increase my daughter's interest in books and reading. It is doing the trick. We received the book and have read through a quarter of it each night since. She is actually excited and looks forward to seeing what will happen next.
