Professor Rahe, a modern day King of Sparta
Sparta's Sicilian Proxy War: The Grand Strategy of Classical Sparta, 418-413 BCI am surprised to see that Professor Rahe has extended his Sparta chronology to a fifth book.I first read The Grand Strategy of Classical Sparta the Persian Challenge. It is simply one of the finest books I have ever read, it is outstanding, it is comprehensive, it is a must read.I followed that up with The Spartan Regime. It is the first book in the series but it seemed to make little difference that I read it out of sequence. His books are not repetitive in nature, he finds new and important slices of history, and tells a wonderful storyI now own all five books from this series. Next in line is The First Attic War 478-446 BC, and I will follow it up with The Second Sparta War 446-418 BC, then on to this oneProfessor Rahe is an outstanding writer, one of the best of our times. He opens his books by punching the reader in the face with pertinent information, you must pay attention from the get go, and you will be pleased you did soBefore you know it you are transported back in time, along for the ride, a truly phenomenal writerThank you professor
