Family Saver, Quality Product!
Purchased this in March of 2022 after seeing a local home burn down on the news. I searched for Amerex specifically because these are the ones we used while I was in the Army and I have seen many Soldiers trust their lives to them. I realized I had smoke alarms, but nothing to stop it if it did happen. Mounted these on the wall and hoped I would never have to use them. March of 2023 I fired up my propane grill to preheat it for cleaning. The grill was up against the brick of my house. I let it heat up while making dinner for the family inside the home. My dog was out back and came barking to the door. I tried to let her in but she began barking furiously and took off out around the house. Not sure what was happening but knowing there was a problem, I followed. As I came around the side of the house I saw my grill engulfed in flames, and flames reaching up and licking the soffit. I ran inside and grabbed this fire extinguisher off the mount and headed back to the fire. I yanked the pin, aimed, and squeezed off a couple of burst, then cut off the propane. The fire was out, the side of the house was charred and the attic was filled with smoke, but crisis averted. This fire extinguisher saved our home. I intended to get the one I used refilled, but I got a new job a few months later and moved. Today I took the used one to a refill center to have filled. The man behind the counter said we do this thing where we take yours and swap it with a filled one, but yours is a really nice one so I bet you would rather wait to get it back. His manager came out and said I can swap it, I keep a brand new full one under my counter for just this occasion. He reached under the counter and handed me this exact same model. I am Amerex for life.

Cheap insurance! I had fires and this product worked exceptionally well and can be recharged
I have had two fires in 2023 and this product was Cheap insurance! I had fires and this product worked exceptionally well and can be recharged. Sadly, I tossed one in the bin before I realized they can be renewed and recharged. Because I had the fire extinguishers handy, I was able to put out the fires before my GT5000 lawn mower tractor engine Kohler CV730-0017 and my 1994 Astro van was too badly damaged. I am working on doing repairs now to both projects. The fire extinguishers did an exceptional job and I doubt a less powerful fire extinguishers would have saved my projects.

Solid and sturdy
Fire extinguishers are hard to rate... 99% of the time, you buy them and never use them. I haven't had to use mine yet, so take this review with a grain of salt. That said, in the event of a fire, I would feel safe with one of these. The trigger lever is metal, not cheap plastic, so I don't have to worry that it will snap off in the event of an emergency. The attached hose also is a plus, making it easier to direct the flow right onto the fire without tilting the entire canister.Despite the cost, I'm much happier I own these instead of the ubiquitous Kidde / First Alert units.

JUNK, do not buy
Junk, do not buy. Pins were not installed and powder was discharged in both boxes. Amazon says you can't return or replace, so DO NOT BUY!!!!!! UPDATE- Amazon refunded my money after a bit of back and forth. Still wouldn't recommend because of the return policy. Better off buying in a store so you can verify they have not been discharged.

Worked great, after sitting for 4 years waiting for the fire
Had one in the kitchen, near the doorway for the outdoor grill. Sho' 'nuff, mother in law says "um.. the grill is on fire," to which I respond "hmmph. Probably just need to flip them chickenz..." Well, she was right. Them chicken's were engulfed in flame and she had already turned off the propane. Not sure what was burning at that point, but it was about to take our deck and maybe part of the house with it... so BOOM. Unleashed this fire extinguisher, and within seconds all fixed.Looks like a delicious mustard color now. I do not plan to, nor do I recommend eating this stuff. But very glad it saved us from any further damage or injury. I'll be buying again!

A necessity for any home
These 5-pound extinguishers should be able to handle any kind of household fire. They're light enough to be handled by older children, but large enough to provide some good spray time. The two-pack I purchased is perfect for my own home. I hung one up in the garage next to the interior garage door (so it can be easily used in either the garage or the house interior) and one in the basement next to one of our utility rooms. They didn't come with screws for the sturdy hangers, but drywall screws worked well for me. The only downside, which is why I gave it only four stars, is that one of them came with the plastic retaining strap for the safety pin severed, with the pin pulled out, which could have led to an accidental discharge while shipping. I didn't notice any residue, so it was OK. Also, the metal pins are far too loose in their holes, making the pins fall out too easily when handling and installing the extinguishers. A little more resistance would be good. Believe me, if there is an emergency for which you need to use a fire extinguisher, your adrenaline will easily overcome any slight resistance to pulling the safety pins. Overall, though, I'm definitely glad I have some good quality, good sized fire extinguishers in the home. I paired them up with two kitchen aerosol-style extinguishers (which use baking soda as the extinguishing agent), both of which easily fit in kitchen cupboards. Furthermore, I also purchased a pack of SmartSign Fire Extinguisher 2.75" x 2.75" reflective stickers and placed one on the kitchen wall next to the interior garage door, where one of the big extinguishers is located, and on the wall next to the door of the utility room where the other extinguisher is mounted. If there is a BIG problem in the home, and panic is starting to set in, being able to tell where the extinguishers are located (especially for those unfamiliar with the home) is crucial. I'm a former Navy submarine officer and I know how one's thinking can start to shut down in an emergency and we rely on clear, obvious indicators and training to get through an emergency. Not only do we need to have the equipment in the first place, such as these extinguishers, but we need to know where it is and how to use it. Stay safe!
