Works great, great value!
This is great for laptops that do not have a video drive (like mine). This is easy to understand, set up and use. Solid construction, runs great. Very clear playback, quick data transfer. I like that it's thin and space-saving. Can use with multiple kinds of computers.

Horrendous Product - Save Your Money and Time!
I wish I could give this zero stars because the Wbacon External Blu-ray Drive is quite possibly the worst tech purchase I’ve made in years. Here’s a breakdown of everything wrong with it:1. Unreliable Performance: This drive has one job—to read and write Blu-rays/DVDs—and it fails miserably. Out of ten attempts to burn a Blu-ray, only two were successful. I experienced constant errors halfway through burns, leading to wasted discs and hours lost. It often fails to recognize standard Blu-rays and DVDs, requiring several reinsertions before the disc is even detected.2. Excruciatingly Slow: Despite being advertised as a USB 3.0 device, the transfer speeds were sluggish at best. What should have been a 10-minute task to copy files from a Blu-ray stretched to over an hour. It crawls at a snail’s pace, no matter if you use the USB-C or USB-A connection—both are equally abysmal.3. Compatibility is a Joke: Despite claiming compatibility with Windows, macOS, and Linux, this drive had endless connection issues on all platforms. On Windows, it frequently disconnects in the middle of operations, forcing restarts. On macOS, it wasn’t recognized half the time, even after updating firmware and software. On Linux, it’s as good as a brick—constant driver issues and connection drops made it unusable.4. Cheap Build Quality: The drive itself feels like it’s made out of the cheapest plastic imaginable. It flexes alarmingly with the slightest pressure, and the disc tray is flimsy, fragile, and rattles when open. I can’t imagine this device lasting more than a couple of months without breaking down entirely.5. Noisy Beyond Belief: From the moment you power it up, it sounds like an airplane taking off. The noise is so loud that I had to move it to another room just to avoid the headache-inducing racket. Every read and write cycle is accompanied by an obnoxious grinding and whirring sound, so don’t even think about using this in a quiet environment.6. Awful Customer Support: I reached out to Wbacon’s customer service after facing repeated failures, and their response was less than helpful. They provided generic troubleshooting steps that I had already tried. When I asked for a replacement or refund, they stopped responding entirely. You’re essentially on your own if something goes wrong.7. Terrible Value for Money: Considering the headaches and wasted discs, this product is overpriced junk. There are plenty of better options on the market—this isn’t one of them. I’d rather use an ancient internal drive from a decade ago than waste another second with this pile of trash.Bottom Line: Stay far, FAR away from the Wbacon External Blu-ray Drive. It’s unreliable, slow, noisy, and poorly built. Save yourself the frustration and avoid this product at all costs. I regret every penny I spent on this worthless gadget.

Adds back the missing component
I understand the effort. With the trend toward more (reliable) solid-state computers, designers want to remove "moving parts" from their devices. Who would want their MacMini disabled because of a glitch in the DVD player? So those components are now "outboard". This drive lets me watch Blu-ray movies on my Mac Monitor. That's exactly what I bought it for and it works great.

Great Portable Blu-Ray Player!
I received this item, and had initially given it a five star rating. This changed after I put it to continuous use, on a recent trip. The unit had issues. On my first playing attempt, the movie hung after playing for about 20 minutes. I attempted to restart, then shutdown the system, as the playing program was hung. My system would not either restart, or shutdown. I finally tried unplugging the DVD unit, and the system finally shut down. When I came back up, it brought up a display talking about the region codes, and asking me to set the region code, warning that I had only four more attempts at setting a region code. I set the code and the DVD starting playing. It stopped again, with program frozen, about 20-30 minutes later. I had to disconnect the DVD unit, AGAIN, to get the system to restart. It still took me a good while to get the Blu-Ray disk playing again, and it stopped again. I went through this scenario, at least four times, before I gave up. What concerned me more was how the unit was affecting my system, by not allowing the system to either restart, or shutdown, until I unplugged the unit from the system. I do not like anything interfering with my system operations. This unit is being returned, and NO, I do not recommend it for purchase. Now, one other item, which leads people astray. Do not believe that just because you are buying a Blu-Ray drive that you can immediately play movies. There is a big catch, you need to have software on your system that can allow you to not only read, but to write to these disks. Some people use 'free' software to do this, but this can be cumbersome and a potential security concern, as you do not know what is inside this 'free' software. I buckled up ages ago and paid for Cyberlink PowerDVD software for my portable system. It works seamlessly for me. Yes, it costs a little bit, but the peace of mind is worth it to me, for when I want to play a movie NOW, and want no issues, from playing, or security concerns. It is a matter of choice. The fundamental thing that is important is that you MUST have Blu-Ray playing software on your system, or your external Blu-Ray player will NOT work to play movies for you.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATEI initiated a return for this item and had gone to the UPS store to leave it. I had forgotten the Amazon document with the return code. I went back home, and decided I was done for the day. I then decided to try something. I started my laptop up, logged in, and let the laptop fully come to life. I then plugged the Blu-ray disc in and started my playing program. I was able to start the movie, and pause the movie with no issues. I closed the playing program and shut down the system, which unlike previously, the system did with no issue. I went thru this scenario multiple times, not plugging the Blu-Ray drive in until the system was fully up, and closing the playing program, before shutting the system down. All worked as it should. It seems, for my laptop, that having the drive plugged in BEFORE bringing the system up did not make the system happy, which caused issues after the system was up (like the drive stopping playing, and inability to shut system down, with drive plugged in). I can live with not plugging the drive in, until the system is fully up and operational. I cancelled the return and kept the drive.

USB C does not work, USB 3.0 does
Excerpt from Amazon web page for this unit: The USB 3.0 & Type-C Blu-ray drive supports a wide range of operating systems, such as Windows XP/2003/Vista/7/8/10, Linux, and all versions of the Mac OS system End Excerpt. Host: HP 16" ZBook Studio G9 Mobile Workstation. The USB C does not work on this drive with the above computer; the USB C ports on this computer work with other USB C devices. The USB 3.0 (blue insulator, large USB plug) does work, and allowed me to install TurboTax ASIN B0CJYL7JYV .

the drive is working great but getting software for blu-ray was a hassle
I really like this drive it is lightweight and easy to use, but in order to play Blu-ray discs you have to have blu-ray software and most of it costs $$$ or software like VLC which requires some major configuring that is not sustainable for your average to knowledgeable user!
