Q: Would this be comfy and a good insulator for use on an air bed when car camping (air bed, then this blanket, then a fitted flannel sheet over it)?

This is a low end rough wool blanket so you better put the flannel sheet under it. Military wool blend blankets like that are meant to be durable protection, warm, slightly water and dirt repellent, usually at least semi flame retardant and generally have no effort put in to texture or comfort beyond that. Do not use without another blanket or clothing underneath if you don't want to be constantly itching and possibly even develop a rash from the friction depending on sensitivity. Good emergency blankets, a barrier on bare ground if it's not overly wet, will protect objects as well as people, not horrible for padding, inexpensive option for homeless shelters, and they make surprisingly durable dog blankets if you have a spastic wrecking ball like us. Provided she doesn't pee on it cause for all they can be tossed around by dog teeth, the dirt beaten out of them as needed, and otherwise abused washing them will cause them to start coming apart and possibly destroy them in one wash if you aren't very careful about it. Absolutely never place inexpensive wool blend blankets in the dryer if you don't want a giant ball of loose wool instead. Spray with deodorizer and wool specific or no rinse delicates wash. Then shake or brush clean with a soft bristle brush. Air outside to remove starting odor and future odors that don't come out after misting with wool wash or biodegradable fabric refresher. Spot clean with vinegar. Avoid fully soaking or attempting to completely wash. Generally best considered disposable and buy another one instead of washing it.

Q: Why does this Blakey smell like chemicals???

Not exactly sure. Some say this is what wool smells like. I have a different brand blanket that is 80% wool and barely has any smell to it. But for some reason these gray blankets smell strong.

Q: How much does it weigh?

I am not sure. It is noticeable when carrying it. I would say not lightweight.
