Trinity College London Piano Exam Pieces Plus Exercises from 2023: Grade 2: 12 Pieces for Trinity College London Exams from 2023

Ok but …
I’m disappointed that the trinity selection is very bias towards pop, film and video game music now and the choice for classical pieces has been reduced considerably. The last four pieces in this book are much harder than grade 2 in my opinion; double pages with complicated rhythms. Hegwig’s theme will be very popular I’m sure. I’m glad we can mix and match with the 2021 book which helps as I’m not too keen on the choice in this one.

Where's the classical music gone?
I've taught using the Trinity exams for over a decade and will now sadly be moving to another exam board. As a classical piano teacher there are hardly any classical pieces on the grade 2 syllabus (grade 1 is the same). This is baffling given that Trinity has a Pop syllabus for those not wanting to tackle classical pieces. I'm not suggesting that all pieces should be classical but there are only 2 or 3 out of 12 and it makes me wonder how this is going to help make the case for classical music in the 21st century? There is no Trinity classical grade after all. I like students to chose a mix of styles but this stinks of dumbing down and attempting to tick as many boxes as possible.
