Superb boxset celebrating the career of a cinema maverick
I love the fact that Curzon are now branching out into creating these lavish retrospectives of a director's work. This is quite a rarity in physical media now and it is so good to be able to get all of a director's work in one place. And no better place choice than Lars Von Trier. This has pretty much all of his work (apart from Dancer In The Dark, due I imagine to a rights issue). There are some new scans of his works, including for the whole Europe Trilogy, The Idiots, Dogsville and Boss Of It All. The transfers are all of great quality and a real step up from DVD.All of his work generates a strong reaction in viewers, something that is to be cherished as you can never accuse him of ever being bland! He is often described as a trickster and this is partly true, but when watching his films I also get a really genuinely felt emotion from his characters and their extreme predicaments. The box set also looks incredible, housed in some amazing artwork and a lavish outer box. There are also some posters, a copy of the dogme rules and a really interesting book.I really hope Curzon will bring some more more director box sets out - I'd would love to see a Michael Haneke one for instance and also Catherine Breillat (two other similarly fearless directors).

Fantastic film collection
Great collection of Triers work, dancer in the dark missing but can get cheaply separate from box set. All films are the directors cuts or the extended editions rather than theatrical. Restored films are visually noticeable and impressive considering their earlier dvd counterparts. Extra posters of the curzon poster, artwork and Dogme 95 manifesto, rules and vow of chastity are a nice inclusion. Essay booklet is really interesting and informative. Definitely worth the purchase and is price is great for the 14 films and extras in the boxset.

Lovely item, terrible service from Amazon
Two comments on the item itself - excellent, quality box and a great selection of films, with one exception (Dancer In The Dark). I recommend you buy this item if you have any interest in von Trier's work. However, I wouldn't buy it from Amazon. This item arrived thrown into our wheelie bin - fair enough, as it keeps things away from the poor weather. But it was simply thrown into an empty (apart from an empty plastic bag) wheelie bin and as a result it was damaged quite badly, with the box being both dented and split in two places. Then the real issue started. I returned the item to Amazon's recommended location - our local Asda store. No receipt was given even when I asked for one as I was told I would get an email. A week later, I have no email. Amazon have no record of the item being returned. So it look like I will get charged twice for this item. And try and find somewhere on Amazon to make a complaint about this, or something or someone other than a rubbish "bot" to tell you nothing. These are limited runs of very expensive and lovingly assembled box sets, so to see one destroyed by someone throwing it into a wheelie bin and damaging it is a real shame, and also tells us of the poverty of Amazon's packaging. But would I pay £200 for this item which is what it looks like Amazon will charge me? Absolutely not. It is a great item, and HMV, among others, package items better than this lot. A hard - and potentially expensive - lesson to learn.I am increasingly shifting my purchases from Amazon to direct suppliers (pH, Arrow, Eureka, Second Sight) or other stores (Burning Shed, Rough Trade, HMV) as they actually bother with decent packaging and tend not to throw things around. Before spending a lot of money on something like this, please do shop around. Prices are very similar and the Amazon processes for returning faulty or damaged items are terrible.

Beautiful Set
This set is absolute perfection, and it is clear that Curzon cares about the films they curate. Sure it would have been great if Dancer in the Dark was included, but rights issues often get in the way of these things, unfortunately. If you are a fan, or if you are looking for a set of masterclass films that push boundaries, then don’t hesitate, grab this set!

Yes, Dancer in the Dark is missing.
Regardless, every other film is brilliant, and coming from the singular mind of one of contemporary cinema's greatest auteurs. That film's omission is likely due to rights issues. It's easy enough to buy it separately, to complete his work. Everything that IS included easily pushes this into five star category.

Great box set, don't order overseas from amazon.
Love the set. Thanks Curzon! Next time, I will buy direct or somewhere else. Amazon put it in a box without support, sent it to America, and the beautiful box set Curzon put together was dinged up. Want to replace it? They'll give a small refund ($8) on you shipping costs (at least $30) to send back to their warehouse and I'll get a replacement that could be as poorly sent as the first? I can't do that. I learned my lesson. So upset about this because they really ruined something beautiful with no means to fix it.
