Simple answer. Do you think the quality or type of wood influences the sound quality of a guitar or violin? Those that have answered "no" to this question clearly don't understand acoustics and how wood density affects sound shaping. That said, it's a small radio cabinet, so the way the sound is affected would be less obvious. The wood type will make a difference, but in this particular case, the cabinet is so small that it would be subtle at best.

Q: can you use the device without a power cord?

No, there is no battery in the device; therefore the power cord has to be used when operating the radio. As a side note, you won't believe the clarity and quality of sound, including bass, that comes out of this little radio.

Q: Is there any harm in put this on a timer or remote to turn cut off the power?

I can't imagine it would be a problem. There aren't any pre-sets, for example, that could get lost with a power interruption.

Q: Has anyone had success getting alarms set on an iphone (mine is iphone x) to play through the model one bt when paired via bluetooth?

iPhones are programmed to only play alarms through the built-in speakers, so the alarm won't play through a separate Bluetooth speaker such as the Model One BT. iOS is designed to revert to the internal speakers to prevent a missed alarm.
