Works very well. Recommended.
Lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. Feels strong and well made. The 'catching' mechanism means branches don't drop on your head and you can guide them down safely. Will cut 1cm radius easily and up to 1.5 cm with a bit more (2 handed) pressure. If you've used a ratchet type pruner before you'll know how frustrating it can be trying not to get the strings tangled in branches - this streamlined tool solves that problem.Worth watching the video before using, although it is fairly simple. Two things to note:A. To begin, the screw in the handle needs to be slid aside in order allow the blades to flex (in the video this is a plastic thing which isn't on my version). See photo1.B. When extending you need to ensure the clip clicks into the hole in order for the mechanism to work. Photo 2.That's it!

Fantastic piece of kit
I am 5ft 2 and fight a losing battle normally, with neighbour's huge bramble thorns, coming over fences and trees like festoons! Being so short I can only cut so high so I seem to be doing it every 5 or 6 days normally. I saw this on offer, making it excellent value for money and couldn't believe how brilliant it was. I don't hurt the small of my back overextending anymore and I can now cut way higher, meaning it needs doing less often. It is easy to use, sharp,a little weighty for a lady but worth it because it's so well made, strong and efficient. The handle has a smooth action and you can prune fairly meaty thorns with extreme ease. I'm thrilled with it and feel like I can get on top of the job in hand now and even after half an hour my garden looks so much better.

effective and function as stated.
i bought this to cut back marauding creepers and branches from a neighbour's garden. They need balancing during use but are very effective.bv i would recommend use for short periods only as they put pressure on the neck and top vertebrae which could cause problems for some older people.

Easier pruning
The tool is well made and is the ideal length for me. It cuts cleanly.

It’s only good for very light branches
It only good for light branches and he still had to get the ladder out to get any where near the top of a eight food wall.not worth the money.

Great pruner
What a great garden tool! I’m a 61 year old female with weakened wrists and a fear of step ladders - not a great combination for trying to keep the overhanging branches from your neighbours trees under control! These are amazingly easy to use, have a great reach and cut through larger than I thought branches. I can very highly recommend.

No instructions!
The loppers come with no instruction, so after about 30 mins trying to unlock it, we managed to use it, and it works fine. However we have no idea how to lock it, so the blades will have to stay in a unsafe open position. We shouldn't have to guess how to use it, and we contacted the seller and they don't have instructions to send. the seller doesn't have any This is why I'm giving the item 1 star.

Brilliant design
Other than it's performance over time - which I can't comment on as I've just bought the Gartol tree pruner, in every other respect this tool is unmatched. I've owned three pull type, non-telescopic tree loppers, all of which have proved useful while they lasted, but which all failed within a year or three of domestic use in a 1.5 acre garden. I continue to use a fourth 4m+ extending pull type for its very long reach. But for about 90% of the pruning I do the Gartol is a significantly better design than the pull type:1. At full length it measures the same as the broken Fiskar UPX82 which it replaces, but shortens progressively along 5 equal stops to 110cm which makes it much easier to manoeuvre when pruning inside a large pear tree for example. I progressively extend it working from the centre of the tree outwards whereas I used to have to swap between tools.2. It's single hand grip cutting operation as opposed to the pull type also makes it far easier to use when up inside a tree; the pull action requires far more elbow room, which is not often available between the branches.3. The cutting grip can be held in one hand at length giving it a longer effective reach than the Fiskar especially as the other hand is free to hold the ladder or tree branch. The grip can also be closed with two hands for more cutting power although for almost all of the cuts I make this has not been necessary.4. The grip cutting action, as opposed to the pulling action also keeps the cutting head still while cutting, making for more accurate cuts.5. So far the blade is capable of cutting through much the same diameter/hardness as the Fiskar was, only caveat being that the blade is brand new. But it does not have the dual gearing of the Fiskar - so if you intend to cut through lots of dead wood or 32mm green wood - the Fiskar might be your better bet - although I found the Fiskar crossover blade tended to bind closed on ripped fibres when put under this much strain; a real time consuming nuisance freeing the blade. It remains to be seen whether the Gartol will also suffer in time from this binding problem.6. The cutting head casing is significantly narrower than any other pole lopper I've used, making it much easier to see and place the blade on the target. Far closer to the ease of using a secateur.7. The cutting head can be easily angled - much like other pole loppers.8. The cutting head can be easily revolved relative to the cutting handle - unlike other loppers.9. The Gartol although heavier than the Fiskar actually feels lighter in use. The spread hand on the cutting grip gives more control and stability than holding the end of a cutting pole.10. The blade can easily be locked shut for transportation.11. All the linkages are metal. So no failure in prospect due to fraying pull tapes.12. Best of all the Gartol has a very effective way of gripping the cut branch during the cut. It has two molar type ridged jaws which close on the cut branch enabling it to be withdrawn and placed wherever you want it. This saves me a huge amount of time fishing about in the top of wisterias and trees trying find and retrieve the piece I've already cut.I seem to have turned into a pole lopper nerd, but feel that such a well executed design deserves a shout out.I'll repost if the Gartol fails.
