I was lucky enough to have two sons that played baseball beyond college. It all started for them with a velcro ball/glove and the foam bat 32 years ago. I think the bat came from a Denny's promotion back then, and may have been a Ken Griffey model ... Now one of my sons has a daughter, and she is athletic / coordinated as they were at that age ... so he's excited to see if she wants to start taking some swings ...The bat is super light, the balls are soft so you don't have to worry about dents in cars, or broken windows. She loves swinging the bat ... and that's where the foam comes in handy, softening the blow you get when she doesn't wait for you to get out of the way. But don't let the foam bat fool you, a good swing / making contact - and the ball will fly.The foam balls are a perfect way for her to start out, without any fear of being plunked with the soft toss. And defensively, you don't have to hide the parked cars, or bird feeders, the balls won't break anything.Finally, I should note, she loves the color ...Hopefully the bat will start of years of fun and enjoyment playing the game, just like her dad did many moons ago.

I should’ve read the details better. The bat is pretty short and too thin for toddlers just learning hand eye coordination.

I bought this for my 5 year-old granddaughter and the bat is a little small for her. But since the set is advertised for 3 year-olds I can't hold that against the product's rating. The bat is definitely lightweight which is a good safety feature - and that is what I was looking for. The balls are a good match for the light-weight bat. We haven't had it long enough to rate the durability but I don't see any reason it shouldn't hold up to the use it will get from my granddaughter. Also, can't beat the price.
