Would this frame hold thin canvas, thicker than a photo?

It's really just made to hold photo paper.

What is the thickness of the black frame?

I did not measure the thickness but it is nice and thick. I will guess it is 1/2 inch. I found these to be very sturdy. I bought 2 and I used them as gifts and both recipients were very pleased.
