High quality dark fruitcake
I have always liked fruitcake. For the past few years i have been buying fruitcakes as presents for myself on my Birthday and at Christmas. I like trying ‘new to me’ brands and varietys. I was pleased to find theur are so many varieties. This item was a big hit, which I’ll repeat as a purchase next year. The shortbread texture was unique and took me a bit to get into. I’m hooked now. The recipe is top notch. Being soaked in high quality whiskey took it way over the top. If you like new tastes, unique quality ingredients & flavorings, and prefer a dark fruitcake, then you’ll like this one.

We tested 3 different fruitcakes so you don't have to...
My family had a fruitcake face-off this year between the Walkers Glenfiddich whisky cake, the Collin Street Bakery Deluxe fruitcake, and the Grandma’s Famous Old-Fashioned fruitcake. You will see this review under each fruitcake tested, so you can move on if you’ve seen it elsewhere. The five of us ranged in age from 17 to 85 and we rated each one on appearance, aroma, texture, moistness, and flavor. 3 out of the 5 of us regularly eat fruitcake during the holidays, and the other two have had it before. All fruitcakes were served at room temperature. We scored them independently and discussed the results afterwards.Long story short – we each ranked the Grandma’s first, the Collins St second, and the Walkers third. Now, the rest of the story…The Grandma’s was the clear winner. It had the best flavor and aroma. It tied with the Collins on appearance. The Grandma’s was a tradeoff between moistness and texture – it tended to crumble more than the other two but scored the highest on moistness. The Grandma’s had the strongest whisky notes of the three tested. All enjoyed the Grandma’s. We rank it 5 stars. The Collins was second. It had a similar aroma to the Grandma’s and tied on appearance. It held together better than the Grandma’s but was a bit dryer in texture and on the palate. It had the strongest citrus notes of the three. 2 out of the 5 of us thought it was good, 1 thought it was okay, and 2 didn’t like it. We give it 3 stars. The Walkers was a distant third. It scored the lowest in all categories. It looked and tasted dry. It had a dry, waxy aroma and texture. It had some holiday spice notes – cinnamon and clove – but none of us enjoyed it. Those of us who are scotch drinkers agreed that Glenfiddich should stick to making that and steer clear of making fruitcakes. We give it 1 star.So the 5 of us recommend the Grandma’s, 3 of us think the Collins is good to try if Grandma’s isn’t available, and none of us recommend the Walkers.Enjoy the holidays and happy eating!

Yummy!
We always have plum pudding at Christmas dinner. This year was no exception. This order was so nice as there were two in the order. We used one on Christmas when our daughter and family were here. My husband inserted the sixpence, as is custom. We told everyone that the coin was there, and to be careful. Our six year old grandson was hesitant on eating the pudding, as it did not smell like anything he had ever eaten before. When he took a little bite, along with the brandy hard sauce, he found the sixpence and became so excited, he finished the whole piece he was given. He has now been introduced to a very English Christmas meal, thanks to this wonderful pudding. We are saving the second one for next year, if we can't find an occasion to eat it sooner.

Much better than expected!!
I'm so glad Amazon didn't let me cancel my order! After placing my order for a 28oz cake for $40 I started getting buyers remorse. I read the reviews and felt even worse! I'm not sure if the comments about the size were for a smaller cake but this is NOT the size of a large muffin. It was expensive for the size but the cake was enough to give all 7 of us a good size piece with some leftover. It's very dense so you don't need a huge piece! It was moist and had a very good Glenfiddich flavor! Yes the majority of the cake were sultans but I think some people couldn't see the other fruit mixed in because the color was the same. I'm glad I purchased this for a special treat. I included a pic so you could compare the size to a standard coffee mug. Also took a pic of the inside. I don't want people to be scared off by the negative reviews.

Will not be disappointed!
Exactly what I remembered; may be a little dry. But given it's commercially made, I'm very happy with the quality. Will buy again!

Tasty traditional treat
It was tasty. You definitely have to steam them though. It makes it squishy and brings out the whiskey and spice flavors. If you like Christmas pudding this is a good alternative to literally having to make it weeks ahead of time. I like the black label one. You can taste the whiskey used to make it. Apparently I’m the only one in my family that likes Christmas pudding so I didn’t have to share!

Too Dry - Add Booze
I love fruitcake (don't hate me). I love single malt scotch whisky. I should have loved this too! It was okay. It was somewhat fruity. I could smell the scotch, though I wouldn't have been able to tell you the brand or if it was single malt. The worst part was that it was dry. I added some rum, well, quite a bit actually. I closed the tin and let it percolate for a couple of days. It definitely became an adult only type of dessert. If you buy it, add more scotch or dark rum or whiskey, or whatever you want. If you want a somewhat dry fruitcake, that kinda smells like booze, this will be perfect.
