Yes it works fine with an expanding hose - I’ve used them together wit no problems.

Q: What ratio of feed it uses? eg. for 10 litre of water, how much ml feed is used?

It dispenses at its own given rate. The handle has a switch for water or feed. I tend to water with feed every fortnight from May to October and on water once a week if-in dry spell

Q: Anyone know what1 btl feeds in real life? - I've seen 45sqm but this must be a mistake as it wouldn't feed my small veg patch even once

It did a lot more than 45 square metres for me. I can't say how much exactly. Perhaps there's a fault with the feeder unit. It should add a small, metered amount of feed into the water as it passes through the unit.

Q: Further to last question. what strength would i need based on using 5g per litre per sq yard

The bottle is designed to be used with the spray applicator. One bottle with good water pressure will treat approximately 40sqm.
