Optical quality! Good size! Exactly what I was looking for!
This was advertised as optical quality, and that was delivered. If you look at the photo you can clearly see the birefringence (light passing through calcite is split along two paths, forming a double image on the far side) even though the photo was taken indoors under normal room lighting. I was looking for a crystal like this to use as a Viking Sunstone. The required clarity and size are both there (the ruler photographed is scaled in inches). The crystal was very carefully packaged for shipping, as well. Lots of paper wadding inside a well taped and plastic shrink coated cardboard box. Thank you!

Great quality! Exceeded expectations!
The media could not be loaded. This optical calcite is perfect! Nice, thick chunk and crystal clear. My video doesn’t capture how beautiful it truly is but I at least wanted to show the double refraction and nice size. Thank you!!

Much bigger than I expected
This is a nice and hefty chunk of calcite! It has a few striations/inclusions but to me, that's what makes it special. So looking forward to working with this rock!

Cloudy crystal not optical quality.
Piece I received was fairly cloudy and not "optical quality" as advertised. Only one small corner was actually clear enough to be optical quality.

Kinda cloudy but a descent size piece
It was a little cloudy than I expected. I have a couple of other specimens, and this is by far the cloudiest piece that I have so I’m a little disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised at the size, so that kind of makes up for it.

nice size and shape, but a little cloudy
I was hoping to be able to demonstrate using this as a navigational aid like the Vikings. Yes, it does work and the size an shape of the crystal are of good quality. But the clarity leaves a bit to be desired, so it is a little difficult to actually see changes in intensity between the ordinary and extraordinary rays.

The media could not be loaded. Easy to see through. Excellent quality AB’s weight. Would recommend if you’re looking for optical calcite.

Bigger than expected
This is a very nice calcite. It was a little bigger than I expected, which is fine. It's a fairly clear piece, which is what I wanted.
