Q: What do the different colours (red, green and / or blank) actually show?

Hi the top blue light refers to amperage 8 10 or 13. Bottom green light is the timer light. And the middle is your LED indicator.

Q: Charges my ev6 fine on 8a but the car doesn't detect the charger if set to 10a. is my charger defective or is there a setting i'm missing?

Not sure, but I would check the manual to see if 10A is specified as an acceptable input.
