These are just like the sun-dried tomatoes I have grown up with in the deep south of Italy. The salt is used for preserving, the packaging does not offer instructions however, in general, sun-dried tomatoes must be soaked to remove most of the salt before using. They can be soaked for few hours, or blanched by placing in boiling water, remove from flame and soak for at least an hour, then rinse again in combo of water and white vinegar (50/50 solution). The tomatoes will NOT disintegrate in boiling water like fresh tomatoes do.Taste them after soaking, if they are still too salty for your taste, change the water and soak some more until they reach your taste level. After the soaking process they are ready for use. Typically they are jarred, with spices added (ex. dry oregano, fresh mint, garlic, hot pepper flakes) and covered with extra virgin olive oil - seal tight, wait a week before use and ENJOY!Additionally, these are very reasonably priced!

Best value for the price and great quality
These taste amazing and I like that they're natural. Nothing added. These will be a steady item in my pantry for sure.

TERRIBLE
I love sun dried tomatoes, so I decided to buy a pound of it. Unfortunately, when I received the bag and tried to eat it I was totally shocked. The tomatoes were as hard as ROCKS! I could even chew a tiny piece. I put my hand in the bag and tried to find at least one that wasn't in such a deplorable state. However, they were all the same. So, I tried to return the bag but the seller has a No Return Policy. The strange part was when I first placed the order, I tried to cancel in less than an hour but cancelling was no longer accepted. I believed the seller just wanted to unload these damaged and rotten tomatoes and receive the money in spite of the fact that they were totally non edible. Shame on them. Please be aware of this seller!!!!!

Good Value, Somewhat Salty
The big bag will last quite a while and is a great additive to have in the kitchen. Some of the tomatoes come out much saltier than others. These are best blended in to sauces and stir fries, not eaten from the bag.

Have to prepare
Yes these are salty in their original state. But I always soak them in water for about half hour to an hour and then drain off the water. Then I slice the tomato into smaller pieces and add to sauce or recipe. You don't need very many as the flavor is intense. It's like adding little bursts of flavor, like olives or capers. Love that they don't have oil.

Super SALTY
I believe the reason their so SUPER SALTY is to preserve the dehydrated tomatoes. But that’s ok I would rather use sea salt as a preservative than chemicals. When I am ready to eat a small bowl I will soak them overnight and then season them with herbs and add some balsamic vinegar set in the sun to warm them and kick back and enjoy them with my salad.

The salt crystals under the edge feel like sand when you suddenly crunch it.
I gave it three stars because there were large salt crystals( I hope...) under the edges of the tomato and suddenly crunching into it felt like biting sand or dirt and tricked my brain into not really wanting to eat them anymore. But the flavor was great and they were soft and delicious. I just wish the salt didnt turn to crystal under the lip. Not sure if that is even preventable at all :)
