Great product

So when I ordered this I was expecting a much smaller washboard. Not that I wanted one, I just figured that for the super low price I'd be getting a small/ low quality one. Well when I got home my roomate(who washes his clothes at the laundromat!) had brought the washboard inside from the front porch and placed it at my door. The packaging was interesting, it was basically a large piece of cardboard, folded in half with the washboard inside, taped on all sides to keep the item from slipping or falling out. To my surprise the packaging really kept the washboard safe, and when I opened it up low and behold, the washboard was in absolutely PERFECT condition! It's made out of really solid and good quality wood, and is put together using not just nails, but notches to give added strength. Even though the dimensions are on the item info, it's hard to get an idea of how big it is. let me tell you, it's big(but not too big, don't worry) and is not a cheap low quality thing. This is a solid, well made, and effective washboard. I just used it today to do about 3 days of wash(I like to wash frequently to reduce load amount) and it really helped get some stains from the back of the collar of a white shirt out. For the most part there were not stains on my clothes besides that, but I could tell that scrubbing the clothes on this washboard(versus rubbing the clothing item on itself for friction) make the clothes cleaner and was easier on the fabric. Also with the added friction from the washing board I need less soap. To wrap it all up, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WASHBOARD to anyone who is considering it. It is awesome, trust me.

Works great. Only complaint is that one side of the top wooden piece was not entirely secured- the nail going through on one side didn’t quite secure the top piece. When I hung it on the wall, the top wooden piece came off on one side.Honestly seemed like a fluke to me. Secured it with another nail and works wonderfully otherwise. The board is nice and sturdy and can handle lots of pressure while washing items. The loose board piece did not affect the overall sturdiness of the washboard in any way. The board is framed nicely and assembled well.As far as use, it works perfectly. The metal piece saves so much time and effort in hand washing. It’s the perfect size to lean over a bathtub or utility sink. I’ve been hand washing a lot of laundry for months due to irregular access to wash machine, and it cuts the time to a fraction.

I bought this washboard, along with a Calliger Hand Crank Clothes Wringer and a Ball Clothes Washer Deluxe as part of a hand-washing laundry system I plan to use outside in the summer months. I wasn't sure I needed a washboard, and honestly, I'm still not sure I needed it, but it's nostalgic and I don't think I'll regret having it. Even if I seldom use it, it makes for a cool decoration in my rustic cabin.So, some reviewers made mention of how "huge" this was, which made me wonder if the measurements in the description were wrong. But I found it to be within half an inch of the described measurements and just the size I was visualizing. Although I will say the BOX it arrived in was very oversized, which was mildly alarming to see on my porch.I have only used it once so far. I didn't have any specific stains in that load, but I scrubbed the armpit areas of some work shirts on it. I felt like I wasn't accomplishing anything, so I stopped bothering with the other shirts. Maybe there's a technique to it that I'm missing. But they've been around for eons so they must be effective. I'll try again when I have a real stain to scrub. In the meantime, it was very handy to set on top of my wash bucket to use as a surface to spray my pre-treat stain remover onto certain areas, like the armpits of the shirts, etc before tossing in the wash bin. So I'll use it one way or another!It's well made. The "Behrens" logo is wood-burned onto it, not painted, which I like. Unfortunately, mine somehow got overlooked in the stenciling process because the top of the lettering was not burned in and got cut off. So that was a small disappointment, but it's strictly aesthetics so not a big deal for me, but might be disappointing to someone buying it specifically for décor. I'm sure it doesn't happen often though.

Not sure why some reviews here said this washboard is not sturdy, not made all that well. It is very sturdy, the frame is post in hole ( metal is tongue in groove so to speak). The pictures here are not correct, or things have changed. My washboard has a support the runs down the middle of the back. There is a gap between it and the metal so it does not muffle the sound the board makes. I use the post to produce a block sound. Its neat. This wasboard does make a slightly different sound that the musical washboard sold here on Amazon, that is because the corrugation of this Behrens board is slightly tighter together. Behrens by the way makes great old fashioned lidded galvanized aluminum trash cans.

This is a nice musical washboard. I bought this to use as a musical instrument. As far as a musical instrument, it has a good tone to it and I will be able to install other pieces to it to add to my percussion section like a jam block, cowbell, bicycle bell and a few other usual objects found on musical washboards of this size. This is of a simple construction and sturdy enough for making a lot of music and if you are looking for a large washboard to use for this purpose, with good, solid mounting points and at an affordable price, this is your washboard. Some washboard players like a small washboard but I have seen many large ones like this on stages so I chose this one. Lots of room for add ons as washboard players are known to add to their washboards. You will be able to find the items at Amazon to create your own idea of a musical washboard. This by itself is a great addition to a jug band or just a jam session when you want extra percussion and rhythm. Get one for fun and make some music. Try both sizes too. Behrens makes em right.
