Amazing for Small Rescue!
It’s very sensitive and seems to pick up every chip instantly. Have used on many animals & chip types and it has no problem detecting them as soon as you begin to wave the scanner in the general vicinity of the pet. A great, compact, easy to use, and nice looking scanner at an incredible price point.

Please read before purchasing.
I try to be very fair with reviews but I have spent hours and hours trying to get this to work and it does not. The scanner itself works, the problem is there is no way to get the data off the scanner. This is super important to understand. It will scan but when you try to retrieve the data, the only way is using an outdated version of Windows and I am not even sure that works (I don't have one). I have tried multiple Windows 11 machines, multiple cables, followed the instructions to the letter and it does not work. Their support is responsive but their answer is it works (it does not). If it was once machine I would say it was something with my PC but I have tried on multiple. Either the software doesn't work or the instructions are wrong. Just know if you buy this, you will never be able to retrieve your date. It is mind boggling to me that you can't retrieve it from the scanner itself. I can't even process that part. Hopefully this will save others from making the same mistake I did. I am off to find something that actually works.

Mostly accurate
I volunteer with a local rescue and bought this to scan strays that I sometimes transport. Worked great on my cat, my foster dog, but missed the chip on my Ricky. Took him to the vet to check for a chip and it was right between his shoulder blades. I must have scanned him 10 times and this scanner didn't pick it up. After the visit to the vet I checked again and now it does detect Ricky's chip.

Scanned both cats easily, but have to transcribe code while on display
Read through the instruction book and seemed easy enough. Charged it for a bit and turned on and it said scan, but you actually have to hit the "OK" button to start it scanning. Then was able to locate chips on both kitties with no difficulty.Expect to connect to computer and dump the scanned data to a notepad, but nope. After scanning I can read the last entry off screen and verify that it matches my records. navigating to the "memory" menu allows enable and disable options and indicates that there are 3 entries but offers no way to view them. I expected like other scanner tools I've used that I would put the cursor in a notepad and then connect the device and it would dump, or it would prompt to press a key and then would dump its scanned data as if I typed it. I couldn't figure this part out. So any kind of arrangement where you can't transcribe the tag number from the screen seems like it would be problematic.
