A classic re-imagining.
This story feature gorgeous artwork. The story is an update that seems to me the inspiration for the Marvel cinematic universe. It’s one of the best super hero comicbook stories of the last 25 years.

All Hail Mark Millar, King of Comics
This is obviously a throwback review, as these comics have been out for a long time. But Mark Millar is the most consistent, talented writer in comics today! reading his early work, I am amazed he isn't mentioned more in the conversation about who is the best out there. The influence of the Ultimates on the prime MCU is obvious and they owe him a great debt!

Amazing
Possibly some of the best comic writing and art I've ever read/viewed. Millar has taken some old favorites and given them a new-life in this double bill. Hitch's artwork is great, and the action sequences stand out as some of the best in recent years. I loved what he did with the Hulk and Thor, remaining true to their origins, but going off into logical directions with their fragile mindsets. Every character (even the b-list heroes and villians) are given new depth and motives, and it's a delight to see what the masteful comic-chefs have created.Buy this if you are even slightly interested in what can be in the wonderful world of Marvel!

Amazing
This book is AMAZING! *WARNING* this book is not for kids!!! The art work and story telling is top notch. The relationships between the characters is engaging and exciting. From dealing with discrimination to full on domestic violence, this book touches all kinds of social dilemmas. It is action packed and filled with drama! All of which caught me off guard and why it received 5 stars! It also comes with goodies like shorts and extra artwork. This book is definitely worth your money and time. I highly recommend this book!

The MCU's Blueprint
This book contains two different stories of the Ultimates, essentially the Avengers reimagined for a modern age. There's a lot to like about this book, starting with the art. Bryan Hitch knocked it out of the park. It's just amazing to look at. The details, the scope, it's astounding.Mark Millar's writing is good for the most part, but can be hit or miss. He creates an excellent, more real world version of what the Avengers would really be like. Iron Man is brave, but a drunk and a womanizer, his Captain America is more hardcore than he's usually portrayed, like a true soldier. Giant Man is a coward and an abuser. There are also several issues with no action, as the team is seen by the public as being unnecessary because they don't have anyone to fight. Millar gives us interesting things to think about if superheroes were 'real'.But Millar's shortcomings are also on display here. Everyone's voice sounds the same, snarky, 'I'm so cool' dialogue comes out of the mouths of every character. Also, for the first storyline, the aliens come out of nowhere. It would have been nice to get a little more foreshadowing. The villains in both stories are pretty bland and straight forward. In the second volume, I thought Millar was setting up an interesting idea when the Ultimates were taking an action in the Middle East that mirrored the US invasion of Iraq. In some ways he was setting up the Ultimates as the villain in their own book. But by the end of the story that is all forgotten and it's just a good guy/bad guy story.Despite my complaints, this is a good book overall. Big action, high stakes fun. If you are an MCU fan, you can see how the Ultimates laid much of the groundwork for the movies. Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury, the Chitauri, the relationship with Shield, etc, all started here. I recommend this book to almost anyone who loves superhero stories.

Amazing collection of work by some of comic's best
Can't say anything bad about this one. I loved the individual issues, I loved the smaller volumes 1 & 2, and I am totally floored by the quality of this huge omnibus. Marvel really does a great job on these; the binding is top-notch, the printing is exceptional, the materials are first rate. And, of course, this is Hitch and Millar doing what they do best: sweeping, cinematographic stories of epic proportions. For the price, you can't beat this. Grab it while it's still in print, because it will surely go the way of others in its class and be hard to find at any price.

Great Story Great Art
$70 for a book you read in 1 or 2 hours. Somehow omnibus publishers have convinced us the price is worth it. Omnibuses are not college textbooks. We can't take out student loans to pay for them.
