Does this kit come with soldering instructions?

If you are asking specifically for "soldering" instructions, there is nothing that needs to be soldered. The pickguard's pickups and controls are all prewired. There is a plug to join the main electronics to the output jack, so no solder necessary there either.. The only bare wire is the ground (earth) wire that connects to the bridge via the spring tremolo claw. There is a tab there you slip the bare end of the wire under and push down on to hold in place. This is the one place I would recommend a spot of solder, but it is not absolutely necessary. If you don't know how to solder and want to learn there are literally hundreds of videos on YouTube that teach you, some specifically for guitars. It is easy.

I’ve tried to stain this guitar body and no matter how many coats I apply it looks the same and fails to take the color, do you know why that may be?

Thin layer of wood sealer... Need to lightly sand it off before stain. Make sure you get it all or the stain will penetrate some areas but not in the areas you miss
