Q: Is Coast owned by Gerber?

I don't believe so. Gerber is now owned by Fiskars, which is a Finnish company. Always possible they bought Coast, but I doubt it.

Q: The spec on the blade of the knife state the blade is 1.2". i asked if a 2" serrated blade would fit. my respondent said he "thought so" ???????

This uses box cutter blades so if it is the size of a box cutter blade like lets say a fiskars or dewalt it will fit but it also need to have the notches above the blade those type of blades have to grip on

Q: how thick is the knife when closed? Would it comfortably fit in the small fifth pocket on jeans?

Dont worry about the thickness. It is similar to the Gerber EAB just a tad thicker. It should fit in an coin pocket on the jeans. This Coast DX126 is by far the best knife ever. The mechanism of the blade retaining is completely lines lock system inside and no plastic - its all stainless steel. Very robust design. By far the best thing on the market.
