The Oil Painter's Color Handbook: A Contemporary Guide to Color Mixing, Pigments, Palettes, and Harmony

I bought this after I saw it on a you tube channel which said it was a must for any oil painters. I have read it from start to finish which is quite a task as it is a mighty tome but the information in it is fascinating and I can see myself dipping in to it frequently in the future to refresh my memory as you can't hold all the information in one go. It's beautifully illustrated,but my only complaint is that some of the photos of palette with colour information on the writing is to small to identify the right colours plus it doesn't go into the munsel system very much compared to the other palette of colours. If you are an oil painter you seriously need this book

This book is a must have .beautifully done and clear explanation..I just think it is so worth the money .I would pay double ..

This book, 'The Oil Painter's Color Handbook', by Todd Casey is the best book for beginners and experienced oil painters BY A COUNTRY MILE!Practical guide on how to prepare, mix and apply oil paint with different types of medium described in detail. Colour wheels provide excellent basis to colour mixing. Only Gamblin Brand colour names are given. Will be useful to know how W&N, Daler Rowney or Old Holland names equate to the Gamblin colours.*** Not cheap *** A good investment that will repay in terms of value-for-money paint smearing for years to come!

This book is outstanding!!! I am returning to painting after too many years and have found the depth of this book to be usefully comprehensive. This is written by someone who understands the subject enough to be able to explain all the complexities in a methodical and well constructed easily readable manner. I have long understood that colour theory separates the ok from the exceptional. Too often people just slap the paint on without any consideration for how the colours works to convey more than just a painting. I highly recommend buying if you want to take your paintings beyond just a recreation of a photo.

Quality, format, the content! I would recommend for anyone wishing to learn or embarking on oil painting! Quality and colour of illustrations and paintings very good.

This book indeed tells you all you need to know about colour and so much more in connection with colours used in painting. A truly beautiful book full of superb paintings, some full page, guiding you through the use of the how to use colour. I have never had such a superb, complete and absorbing book on colour as this one. It’s captivating just to look through. I can not recommend it enough.
