Tender & Fragrant: World’s “Pickiest” Bunny Loves It
After 3 years of trying multiple brands and types of hay, not to mention 100’s of dollars, I ran across High Desert Timothy Hay. If you don’t know already, Timothy hay should make up about all of a bunny’s diet for the best health of your bunny (according to most rabbit experts and vets). When I was left with my son’s bunny I knew nothing about bunny’s and the hay he came with looked pretty unappetizing to me. Not knowing better I started picking clover and dandelions from the neighborhood to give him. He ravished the greens. Soon he stopped eating hay. In a desperate attempt to switch him to hay, I began buying different brands and also different types of hay. The only hay he would eat was Alfalfa hay. (Completely my fault) He got fat, and developed all sorts of gastric problems. With the help of a vet that specializes caring for rabbits, his digestive system was restored but his diet included various fresh greens she recommended and Timothy hay. I went back to sampling various brands of Timothy hay, even the special ‘3rd cut’ hay. The problem was consistency between orders and even in the same box at times. I just ran across this brand about 2 months ago. I started with the smallest package. I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the hay was the tender parts, no to very little dust or dirt (even at the bottom of the box), at least 75% nice color green, fragrant, and the hay was layered and consistent. Buppy (my rabbit’s name), nibbled on it and ate it in between his fresh green ‘salads’. I slowly cut back on fresh greens. I was hesitant to order the next largest box, but the value compared to the small package was silly not to try. I just received the 4lb box. It came the very next day! I was anxious to open it and thrilled that is was packed with the same high quality of the smaller previous box. I still pick out some of the larger straw like sticks, but they’re much fewer than other brands (including ‘top name’). I do that because he about lost an eye from getting poked when he ate. I just opened it and put a little in his ‘dish’ and he took right to it! I highly recommend this and especially so if you have a picky eater! I hope that it continues to be the great hay that I’ve recently experienced. 1st Picture is top of box and the 2nd picture is in the middle layers.

This is PERFECT
Before buying this, I didn't think that there was a huge difference between hay suppliers. Second cutting is second cutting, right? I was so wrong! I used to use Kaytee or VitaKraft because it was cheap and easy to find in stores or online, but decided that I wanted to shop around. I landed on High Desert after comparing prices, sizes of containers, and ability to subscribe and save.Opening that first box was just a jaw-dropping difference in quality compared to the "name brands". This hay looks and feels fresh, it's soft, it smells good, and there's very few (if any) thick stems. My piggies devoured it and I seriously felt like I'd been depriving them. They eat 100% of this hay from their hay rack, which is awesome considering how much of the other brands they left behind (too thick/hard stems). In their hay bin, they love playing around in this hay, digging through for foraged items I hide for them, and napping in it (really, it's that soft and fluffy), whereas with the other brands they just used the top layer. There is almost no shake/powdery bits at the bottom of this box either.I have this on subscribe and save and get a four pound box monthly which is the perfect amount. I have 3 guinea pigs, and they have hay bins to play/nest in as well as hay racks to feed from. I use a plastic container with a lid to transfer half the box into for easy refilling and then stow the cardboard box with other backup supplies until needed.I seriously cannot say enough good things about High Desert. I wish I would have found out about them sooner! I feel good knowing I'm supporting a smaller farm, the quality is leaps and bounds ahead of the big name brands, and this is sincerely a quality product.

Great product! Best customer service!!
I had ordered a large amount of grass first time in March and it was awesome. Very fresh and green. Grass smelled amazing ! Second order I made in June was a smaller batch. This one Not so great. Some dead brown Patches all throughout And smelled different. Contacted High Desert and made my complaint. Customer service immediately responded and were professional and courteous. A few days later I received more grass than I purchased as a replacement. Still not as great as the first large batch that I bought in March But it must be the time of the year playing it’s part. Anyway very satisfied with High Desert and their product but mainly their customer service in this case. I will definitely continue to purchase from them in the future. Thank you High Desert!

Was AMAZING, but quality has changed
Update as of 11/27- We are done with this brand. The quality has gotten worse and worse. So dusty, so brown. It made my guinea pigs wheeze from dust. I would avoid this brand until they start delivering quality hay again. Gave them one more chance after a few months of a break and it is terrible hay.We LOVED this hay. It was worth every penny- we go through at least 32lbs a month with our 5 guinea pigs. The last three boxes we have received were not the same. Not as leafy, lots of sticks and stems, and brown, dusty pieces- rendering it about 50% waste. It has a later "use by" date than the great quality green leafy hay boxes so I'm assuming their 2022 crop is just not as great as the prior years, or they were less selective on what they package to sell. We reached out to the seller directly to share our concerns. We will give it one more shot as we love to support smaller businesses, but we may have to look for another option.
