fun Redux of Daughter's Favorite Characters
Our daughter has recently become a mother and requested this book for her child's collection. She LOVED the Berenstain Bears as a child and is happy to carry on the tradition of reading their tales!

A little flimsy...
A little flimsy but colorful and my granddaughter loves the stories. Would not hold up for young children. She's 6 and they'll last her a bit. Definitely not top shelf bindings however.

I love the Berenstain Bears
I love that these types of books have taught us all the importance of right and wrong, and what you should do when you have a problem, or two. The Berenstain Bears are a family who always try there best to do the right thing when something goes wrong, and when something needs, or should be done. We should take exaples from the Bear family.

Doesn't Realistically Teach Going Green Because of the Wrong Focus!
My girls love Berenstain Bears books. We have a big collection of them. They are great stories with positive messages and are good reading books for young readers. Unfortunately, this book is nowhere near as good as the others. Many of the Berenstain Bears books like "Manners", "The Truth", and "Junk Food" are so good because they give realistic examples, ideas and solutions. In this particular book, The Berenstain Bears Go Green, based on the title you would expect that the story will teach children about Going Green. While it does describe some specific environmental issues and the dangers of pollution, it completely misses any realistic ideas for actually Going Green for your family. Its focus is on the Bear family and the town cleaning up the town dump. While this may be a noble act, your family isn't really going to go to your town dump to clean it up and handle toxic waste. It is not only dangerous, it is probably illegal, leaving you with a story with no realistic ideas of actually Going Green in your normal lives. It does briefly mention some other things that help the environment at the end of the story like recycling, composting, energy efficiency and carpooling, but we are talking about 1-2 sentences. The inside back cover also has a list of "The Berenstain Bears' tips for going green at home" that again touches on some of these ideas. Unfortunately, it is really just a side note. This book would have been much better and more consistent with the quality of the other Berenstain Bears books if those topics would have been the focus of the book. They could have used the Bear family to explain what it means to recycle, compost, carpool, etc. which would have been much more applicable for your family in your home. They could have set up different recycling bins, built a composting bin, and carpooled to work or soccer practice. My Wife and two young daughters went out the other night in our neighborhood and picked up some trash because my oldest (age 6) was learning about Earth Day at school. It was completely my daughter's idea to do it. The Bear family could have done that. Anything besides cleaning up Toxic Waste. One other strange thing, the Bear family decided to bring up the issue of the overflowing town dump at the next town meeting. Mama stands up to say something, but someone else beats her to it, and instead of supporting that person or adding additional info, Mama just quietly sits down without saying a word. I'm not sure what that teaches a child, but it doesn't sound positive.Overall, we were very disappointed in this book. It is not as good as the many other great Berenstain Bears books. It had a lot of potential, but it missed the boat with the completely wrong focus. While I would recommend many other Berenstain Bears books, this one is not that great.
