Q: do the rings come in a mesh sack ?

All the rings in the box come in a bag but they are not wrapped for like single use

Q: can it be used with the tetra whisper 20 filter?

Yes, try them with and without the last stage bio foam and check for water flow rate. Each ring is about 1/2 inch round & long cylinder and can be used with net type bag for easy removal. Different brands of bio rings are also available with net bags on Amazon, check them out. Fluval Bio Max rings are much more porous than Marineland, would provide better bio filtration but will cost more...Do not rinse bio rings with tap water, rinse with aquarium water to protect beneficial bacteria.

Q: can this be used with tetra whisper 5-10 filter?

I use to have a Whisper filter and I did use this in it. I used old pieces of panty hose to put these in. They also sell media bags to use. I agree with the comment about considering a Aquaclear filter. You will be so pleased with that filter. Does a way better job of filtering. The Aquaclears are definitely worth trying.
