GREAT PRODUCT, But I Had Trouble
No instructions come with this so you better know what you're doing. I thought I did but I was wrong. It's simple if you've done this before, but if you haven't get instructions first. If you know what you are doing this is the product for you. Came complete with everything just like the product states. My issue was not with the product, but operator headspace.

Works as advertised, but get the manual.
I wrote an immediate and very negative review after receiving this machine and misinterpreting its age and apparent lack of an HDMI output. On further examination, I realized that it indeed had an HDMI output, and was not as old as I had thought. My apologies. Bottom line: The Toshiba VCR to DVD recorder connected without a glitch via HDMI to my Samsung 50" hi-def screen, and produces perfectly respectable transfers of VHS content to DVDs -- the purpose for which I purchased it. My only caution is that it has many multi-level menus and a surprisingly complex remote, neither of which are intuitive to navigate. I thought I could take this machine out of the box, connect it to my TV and cue up what I wanted it to do. Nope. This is not an iPad. Reviewing the manual first, and familiarizing oneself with most of the myriad buttons on the machine and its remote is an absolute necessity. Fortunately the manual -- which is 100+ pages in length, written in clear English, and covers every aspect of this machine's operation in minute detail, can be accessed online and downloaded. (A sheet with a QR code was included in the box, which was a thoughtful gesture.) P.S.: Because this device has lots and lots of moving parts, I purchased the extended warranty from Amazon. I hope I never need it, but if it breaks down I hope the protection plan works as well as the machine.

Can't pair with supplied remote
This product is worthless because it has no manual controls and the supplied after market RCA "universal remote" does not pair and even if it did, it has no functionality to open or close the VHS cassette. The supplied remote is an unbelievable cheap model with no model or serial number that only operates a TV or possibly a DVD player but not this Toshiba. Now I find out that I should have purchased a warranty with the purchase because it was bought from the Amazon Renewed Store so I am bilked of $$350+ and it is not possible to complain to Amazon because there is no link to the "Amazon Renewed Store."Let the buyer beware!!!Amazon Renewal store please reply.

Refurbished product which only worked for a couple of weeks
These VCR DVD combos have gotten really expensive so we purchased a refurbished one. It seemed to work well for a couple of weeks and then all the buttons became unresponsive having to push them multiple times to get it to do anything. Very pleased with the ability to simply send it back though. I will be looking for something similar as a replacement.

DVD recorders are hard to find
So far so good. I have a similar model bought new 7 years ago which worked fine. I hope this refurbished unit works as well. I can stream shows saved on my cable box to the unit, creating a DVD of them.
