National Geographic books!
Nat/Geo books always make a great gift. They are colorful and full of interesting information. My granddaughter is studying mythology and is very interested in the topic. This will be perfect for her.

Love
I have been teaching mythology to my students and this book has been an absolute godsend. I reference this all the time when we talk about things like gods and monsters. It is very clear for my students to understand.

Perfect for my middle school mythology classes
Perfect for my middle school mythology classes. After reviewing this one copy, we ordered 20 so each student would have a copy to read from. The students enjoyed the brightly beautiful illustrations. The content was good for them in small chunks for discussion. I would highly recommend to any teacher who needs a small text book to help describe the different world mythologies.

Hedge Podge of Myth and Religion
So like most Nat Geo books this is flashy AND pretty. Almost none of the art, however, is period or culturally accurate but some is, and so there is uneven imagery. Aside from this it has a really nice section on what myth is, but the book itself violates this by lumping Hindu gods into its myths AND also including Shinto in its "myths." Diversity of mythology is GREAT but here it is done in an extremely superficial manner that could be borderline offensive. The other issue is that there isn't a culture-by-culture or geographic logic to the overall book. (I will say there is a really nice world map that "maps" different elements onto the world.) Otherwise the presentation is all over---Native American myths alongside Norse alongside Greco-Roman pantheon. Not an organized presentations at all.
