Decent sound, but you'll need better headphones
I got this as a sturdy, travel friendly cello, not as a substitute for my fine old instrument. With a good speaker, this sounds pretty good, but doesn't come close to the rich overtones of a good cello. Great for practicing in an apartment where neighbors might be disturbed. The Yamaha headphones that are packaged with the cello are very low fidelity -- you'll need a better pair. Don't bother buying a bluetooth transmitter to send the signals to your AirPods, the latency is huge (at an Allegro tempo, my AirBuds were nearly an eighth note lagged). Keep the original packaging for travel. The included case is larger than expected and probably won't make it onto the plane unless you buy a second seat.

Very quiet alternative to accoystic csllo
A huge thank you to Electric Violin Shop for the excellent instrument setup and fast delivery. I would recommend this for people who need a quieter alternative for practicing than an acoustic. This is very quiet without headphones. The contact points and weight (7-8lbs) make it a different playing experience than the traditional body style: however, the instrument is very well-designed and compact.

More for money
The media could not be loaded. The quality is great. Sturdy. Sounds... good. It's electronic. Simply needs to be a solid piece of wood with metal strings strategically attached. Electronic amplifying system. Include EQ! Include cool stuff to get the player going, excited... I think the value should be realistically around $1500... but the price point of $3k+ makes it not only exclusive but unfairly justified by being the amazing inexpensive alternative to excellent acoustic cellos. You won't be disappointed but I believe Yamaha owes us more for the $$

do they make a hard case for this?
Pricey, but worth it. Wish it had a hard case suitable for airplanes.

Just amazing
Soft and easy to play, GREAT sound. As a silent cello, it's the best, I really love this cello. If you could afford this instrument, don't even hesitate. You will realize why it is the favorite of the great electric cellists.
