Honestly Not That Bad
I know Halo 5 is typically viewed pretty negatively by the fan base, but I actually found it enjoyable. I will entirely agree that the story was terrible, but I thought the actual gameplay was quite fun.

THE CAMPAIGN MODE IS PAINFULLY SHORT BUT BARELY WORTH BUYING.
I'm not a fan of online multiplayer games since they are just cash grabs for the companies behind them. I love single person campaigns and nothing else so that alone is what I am reviewing. The game is FUN for what little of it there is in campaign mode. All in all the game is not satisfying as you don't play much as Master Chief in the game. This game is a propaganda push designed to force consideration of multiplayer gaming. The game saddles you with a set of "Artificial Intelligence Team Mates" You must babysit through the entire game. The AI team mates make the game play dull, tedious and meaningless. I don't have an addictive personality so I won't be investing hundreds if not thousands of dollars to play any game video or otherwise. The short campaign game is as generic as you would expect in money hungry gamer land today. The game is not worth full price but if you catch Halo 5 Guardians on sale at 60% to 70% off its worth the price. If you just love Halo 50% off is still money wasted on nothing but it is also understandable for a real Halo fan to bite the bullet and press the buy button.

They dropped Couch Coop
The game is okay, but they dropped a feature that made Halo one of the best series around. That of being able to have friends play a real game with you in person. Why bother to use a console if it's all just online socially. We had other more minor criticisms. They dropped an iconic weapon, the plasma rifle. There was no alternate control settings to emulate the original series and the choices available didn't seem to match other popular games. Grunt redesign missed the mark for an iconic well loved enemy (though Grunt dialog was dramatically improved). Forerunner enemies had no personality (same was true in Halo 4), just mindless twitchy mechanized husks, Halo originally did a good job of giving a personality to the enemy types and more could have been done with the forerunners. They dropped the excellent replay value of Firefight. Instead of months of fun, it'll be a couple of playthroughs and move on. They dropped the ability to run through your last level and watch how you did. Another major loss. 343 seemed to remove a lot of unique features that made Halo so enjoyable (though made some positive additions too)? Army of Two healing mechanics are kind of a superfluous pain, no big deal though on lower difficulties. Some elements of the story slightly depended on knowledge of the books. Had we not read the books, we might have scratched our heads a couple of times.Positives are: Very Good graphics for when it was released. Appropriate and quality modeling for the Halo series. Nice story lines, 343 seems to do a good job fleshing out the story better than Bungie tended to, though not saying the stories are better, just more spelled out. It's good writing. Music tips its hat to previous games and yet has some nice new sounds that added to gameplay. Good improvement in mechanics like scaling/jumping. Weapons are great, it's nice to use the same ones yet have them work like you always wanted them to.For a linear game, if played on harder difficulties, it runs plenty long for the price. Replay value isn't great, like stated, four replays are about the max and that is just upping the difficulty for each playthrough. In rethinking my rating, I changed it to a 5 (originally a 3 for dropping couch-coop and firefight). The reason is this game is really good if you compare it to other non-coop single player games. I initially rated it down due to my anger that the coop and firefight Halo traditions were lost, but in fairness, comparing apples to apples (that is, other similar games to this one and not to the first three Halos), this game stands out as better and I would highly recommend it.

Greedy, greedy Microsoft
I and my two sons have had lots of fun playing the various Halo games together in split-screen co-op mode for years. It was a great bonding experience. Now with this new version of Halo, greedy Microsoft has made it so that the only way you can play together is to be subscribed to their over-priced XBox Live service! We will not be rewarding their greed. We're moving on to other FPS games - lots to choose from!

I really wanted to like this game I did
I really wanted to like this game I did, but upon release this game came out with a near 50 gig patch just to get the game working--and that is on top of the 50 gigabyte install. And since then the game seems to get patches every other month to fix bugs or add some multiplayer content. The campaign is just MEH compared to past Halo games, the split screen co-op mode is gone, and multiplayer is surprisingly uninspired and rather boring. All in all, I would say if you want Halo and have an Xbox One the better thing to do is to get the Master Chief collection as Halo 5 is almost as bad as Halo Wars.DOOM, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Overwatch, even Call of Duty Infinite Warfare are all far better games than this one. This game is only for the hardest of the hardcore Halo fans, and even then, it is best to only buy this game USED or on sale.

Best FPS in Years
Everything about this game is polished and refined - weapons are near-perfectly balanced and offer tons of variety, new spartan abilities add a frenetic pace to the standard Halo formula while still being balanced and staying true to the series, and the variety of fun game modes (along with constant updates, and Forge which will be coming soon for free) offers plenty for everyone. The campaign is a bit short and may be confusing for series newcomers, but long time fans will definitely appreciate the superb sci-fi storytelling and the improvements to combat, though friendly AI still leaves some to be desired. In multiplayer, Arena mode takes standard modes and adds small twists as well as a variety of excellent maps to buttery smooth matchmaking and 60fps gameplay, along with a new single-life mode Breakout which adds some additional variety. Warzone takes 12v12 online battles and adds multiple objectives and scoring methods to make a diverse and chaotic battlefield, along with the use of the new REQ system which is both incredibly useful and addicting, and as is the norm with this game, it seems incredibly balanced. All in all, Halo 5 is easily the best shooter of 2015 and feels like a much needed leap forward for the Halo franchise. A must buy for any FPS player

Halo 5 is really fun, I used to spend a lot of time ...
Halo 5 is really fun, I used to spend a lot of time playing Halo 1 and Halo 2 but moved over to PC Gaming for a while, I recently purchased an Xbox One S and was told Halo 5 was worth checking out and that was definitely true. In terms of competitiveness I've lost my edge now that I'm older as my reflexes have slowed down but I enjoy playing Warzones and through the Campaign and for $20 it provided me with roughly 50-hours of gameplay without stepping foot into arenas. The customization options for this game are also really good, the only point I dislike about them is having to open each back individually and manually item by item delete them if they serve no purpose to me.

Halo 5: Guardians - 9.5/10 - Worth It!
Phenomenal game. Three things can be said about this title: 1. Excellent multiplayer - without question the best Halo MP we've ever had. The new controls and abilities make the game so much fun. 2. Don't believe the hate - the whole game, even the campaign is great, really, it is. 3. Don't believe the hype - the campaign is NOT what they marketed it to be - to put it without spoilers, let's just say that the whole marketing campaign for this game builds up to be completely superficial when it comes to the actual campaign. So, in my opinion, the best Halo game since Reach. Worth owning. I am really enjoying these free content updates we're getting from 343. I am looking forward to Big Team Battle in MP and also Forge when it releases later next month - it promises to be the greatest, grandest and most innovative forge yet. Pick it up!
