A fun rhyming book for children
I love Julia Donaldson’s books for children. This was the first one I picked up for my little brother and all of Julia Donaldson’s books have become firm favourites at bedtime - he also loves to read them alone and has built up quite the collection now!As always the story is fun but still provides a lovely moral at its heart. The illustrations are wonderful and really add to the story. The writing is simple enough for children to be able to read alone but not overly simplistic, so it still provides a little challenge to improve on literacy. As with all Julia Donaldson books, there’s a lot of rhyming and quotes that will become very memorable to you, I find my little brother loves to recite some of them to us!

Fabulous book and illustrations.
Wonderful book. I got this as a copy to keep at our house for when my granddaughter is here. They have the board book but I like this more. It’s not as resilient as the board book but she is really gentle with books, considering she is only 16 months. She’s absolutely obsessed with this book and will read it again and again. She does all the actions and points to the broom, the hat etc.the illustrations are really funny and engaging. Brilliant.

Brilliant fun!
This is the story of a good-natured witch and her contented, purring, cat flying through the air on a broomstick without a care in the world - until the wind blows away the witch's hat. When they fly down to retrieve the hat, a polite, helpful dog brings it to them and becomes another passenger on the broom. Throughout the book they also pick up a bird and a frog, making the broom very overcrowded. Then disaster strikes; the broom snaps in two causing the witch to become separated from her friends and a potential meal to a large red dragon. This is an extremely eye catching and appealing book aimed at preschool and lower primary school children. Donaldson and Schefflers story and illustrations work extremely well together to capture children's attention right from the start of the book. The use of illustration mixed through the large, bold, font makes it seem friendly to a beginner reader. But this is essentially a book for sharing, the use of repetition throughout the story encourages children to join in the reading and the book appeals to their sense of humour with comical allusions:"I'm planning to have WITCH AND CHIPS for my tea". Julia Donaldson has also made a song to accompany the book that children can enjoy singing and performing to.This is a fantastic book and I cannot recommend it enough.

The best in her collection
In my humble opinion this blows the Gruffalo out of the water, it is my absolute favourite and my daughter who is only 5 month will stay awake until the end of the book and pass out, she smiles at this book more than any others.

Delightfully perfect
Do you like to read to your children? Well if you do I strongly recommend with great delight this little book. Now I know in a time such as this with the teachings of evangelical Christians and Mormons that many may see this title and pass. Such a mistake. Regardless of this being the story of a "witch", it is really a story of friendship, of adventure, of problem solving. Topics we should be discussing with our children. The writing is perfect and this book is best read aloud. The magic of the words, the manner in which they dance as the story unfolds, is part of the charm of this little book. So do buy it. Set aside any concerns you may have about "witches". Don't be silly! Simply enjoy this story as the writer and illustrator meant it to be. A bit of delightful fun that also imparts the value of friendship in all it's diversity, the idea of bravery in the face of a bully, and the importance of solving problems. For myself on behalf of my daughter, I do thank the creators of this book wholeheartedly. We've not had so much fun with a book in some time. And my daughter enjoys hearing this story read to her each week at least once if not more.
