My 5 year old Tortie ended up with a UTI in May. Our Vet recommended getting a fountain to enourage her to drink more. She refuses to eat wet food so increasing her water intake was very important. After extensive research I bought this Drinkwell 360 as our first pet water fountain. I wasn't sure if she would use it as unlike most cats she was not big on drinking from a faucet. She would play in the shower after we were done but had no interest in drinking from a sink. When I opened the fountain she was fascinated with the box and shiny parts she actually grabbed the white foam filter and took off with it. At the time I didn't realize it was part of the fountain so let her play with it. Once I retrieved the foam filter and the fountain was setup I placed it near the food bowls. My 13 year old Torbie was scared of the fountain but the Tortie, Squeak, was definitely interested in it. Within a week I moved the fountain to our upstairs hallway. I had read that cats don't like to drink water near their food so had repositioned it. Squeak loved her new fountain. She was fascinated witht the flow of the water which I had turned to the lowest position. She would play with the fountain for long periods of time. I knew she was now getting the water she needed. On a side note Squeak would dump water bowls quite frequently. I had a small water bowl with a reservoir that was fairly heavy. Many times she would keep pawing at it until it tipped over. With this new fountain it was too heavy for her to move.We recently rescued 2 kittens and they love the fountain. It actually caused an issue as Squeak thought it was "her" fountain. With 3 cats using it I started changing the water twice a week and would tear it down and thoroughly clean it once a week. I use soap and water. Do not use any type of scrubby on the stainless steel as it will easily scratch. After the soap and water I soak the smaller pieces in vinegar and wipe the larger ones down with it. We live in the Midwest so I have issues with hard water. Hardwater stains will come off if you let them soak in vinegar, it just takes patience. I am thinking of getting a Brita filter to prefilter the water before adding to the fountain. I will be buying a second smaller ceramic fountain from Drinkwell but would recommend this one as a first fountain. I would also recommend getting the Drinwell cleaning kit. The small brushes are great for getting into the motor and other tight places. Minimally the fountain needs to be cleaned once a week and it can be a chore. Average cleaning time for me is 15-20 minutes. It is worth the extra time to clean as my kitties are benefiting from the increased water intake. Squeak loves her fountain so much she follows me and watches closely when I take it downstairs to be cleaned. She'll then follow me back upstairs and supervise the filling of the fountain.Pros:Stainless steel looks niceHeavy so it can't be tipped overEncourages water intake (3 of my 4 cats use it)Quiet operationDifferent water flow speedsVariable water spouts come with the fountain. I currently use the 3 stream spoutCons:Clips that hold inner cone down are hard to put on and keep in placeCleaning can be a chore BUT I think all fountains would have this issueFilters are expensive ( look on Amazon for a Non-OEM reusable carbon filter)

So far so good!
My cat LOVES this thing! I bought this specifically for when we were on a trip out of town for a week because her water bowl ends up with a layer of fur floating in it and any food she accidentally flings into the bowl while eating. When we're home we sometimes have to dump out and refill her water two times per day, but our pet sitter was only coming to care for her once per day so I figured at least a fountain would constantly be running and filtering the water so she'd constantly have clean water. We set it up the night before our flight and she was very curious and intrigued by the water and light reflections, wanted to paw at it, and it did make her want to drink water but for a few days she would check out the water fountain and then go over to her regular water bowl to drink water from that instead. After a few days, we kept catching her on our pet cams drinking from it. She drank at least a couple of times per day with her regular water bowl, but would sometimes have long bouts where she would ignore it. She has consistently been drinking much more water from the fountain than she ever did with her normal bowl. I had been planning on disassembling and storing it while we were home, but with how much she loves it and how often she drinks from it, even though we're very much lacking when it comes to an adequate amount of power outlets and space in our kitchen, we're keeping the fountain as a permanent fixture, plugged in 24/7. We've only used it for two weeks exactly at this point, so can't speak to any issues with rust, but thus far there isn't any issue with the steel. The filters work great and keep the water clean for a long time. Our pet sitter dumped and replaced the water once while we were gone and we did the same after we got back, I finally disassembled and cleaned it today, so technically we went 2 weeks between cleanings by replacing the water a couple of times, but you are supposed to take it apart and clean it every 7 days. With the stainless steel, it's easy to see when it needs to be replaced and/or cleaned. Steel is the most sanitary material for food and water so I would never consider a plastic fountain anyway. I have several other products from PetSafe that are all good quality so I felt like their fountain would be a safe bet, and so far so good, I'm pleased with it and the quality. The only thing that would make it better is if I could somehow have it be battery powered and if the footprint was even smaller since we have an NYC apartment, but this is actually one of the smaller fountains available so it's not too big. She is pretty skittish when it comes to noises, but the fountain is not loud at all. The only thing we hear is the water trickling (which is good since that helps make her want to drink the water). We can't hear the motor at all, but we do have a constant low hum from our air purifier and fridge and usually traffic and subway noise, so maybe if you live in the middle of nowhere and nothing else in your house makes noise, you might hear it faintly, I wouldn't know.

Great
Great watering bowl, the cats love it. It's easy to maintain/clean and change out components. The only complaint I have is if you don't set it just right it can vibrate rather noisily. I
