The trimmer is very low powered using the supplied battery. I am using a Duracell battery, and it still seems a bit underpowered, is this normal?

Is there any reason I can not use rechargeable batteries?

Hi Armin, good question. It's to do with the voltage, 'standard' batteries have a voltage of 1.5v, rechargeable 1.2v. Therefore the rechargeable batteries may not have the sufficient power to operate the product to the full advertised specification. Kind regards, Beurer Customer Service Team
