Very Basic; Does Not Contain or Intend to Contain Anything About Worship Practices
Note: This is a book about the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo “Faith”, not the rituals and practices of worship within the Church. If you want a basic overview of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Faith, this book will do. It is exactly as the author and the title describe it. From the preface he explains that he hopes to cover practices of worship at a later time. As it is, the book covers basic doctrine like the Trinity, their traditional belief in Mary, a brief overview of the church including the ecumenical councils, the schism between Eastern Orthodox and Catholicism and the Protestant reformation and finally the history of faith in Ethiopia.I’d give it five stars for ease of read and it’s simplicity. However, I think for the potential readers sake, a four is an adequate warning to just how simple it is. I’m a slow reader and I read it in about 2 1/2 hours. I’ve never read a book in one sitting. I’m fairly well acquainted with the Church so I didn’t find out much that I didn’t already know. In fact, come to think of it, the author explained that he wrote it with Tewahedo youth in mind. Therefore, it goes over basic doctrines of faith that most sects consider orthodox and foundational. If you are a believer that is somewhat learned in doctrine, you’ll read page after page about things that you already believe and understand. All that being said, I’m thankful for this short overview.

My Spiritual Father Was the Author Of This Book
(now Kesis - Priest) Alemelayu Desta has been mentoring me for the past year while I wait for an appropriate Monastic Father to be assigned to mentor me. Kesis Desta serves in Youth Ministry in Dallas, TX and is very devoted to his 2 young daughters and family. As any family person can assume, it's proper to write a basic overview of the Faith and keep reinforcing those basic tenets until a person is sufficiently of age to take on adult catechism covering all aspects of Faith, Order and Belief. We Tewahedo already know the damage that is caused by spewing out too much information into the media, only to see it become perverted by non-believers, and we don't want the general public to easily walk away from the invitation to become a Tewahedo Orthodox Christian. If you want in depth instruction to us, come to one of our local Temples and we will listen to what level you are on, and what you want from us in fellowship with our Orthodox Body of Christ! :) Then when you are ready for deeper seeking, we will be there for you also!

Not bad for what it is
Not a strong academic resource, but a useful layman's attempt to introduce his tradition.
