A mixed blessing
Few texts from the Kashmir Shaivism tradition have been translated into English so this one is helpful. The author recognises the similarity with the better known Advaita Vedanta and tries to distinguish the two. However, this book draws mainly on examples from the latter tradition. For example, the author uses the language of idealistic monism (to use the nearest Western philosophy), whereas Shaivism is more akin to dual-aspect monism.

Good translation
I read this book after it was recommended via Amazon following on from my reading list containing books on Hinduism and Lord Shiva. This book was both affordable (about £3 at time of purchase) as an eBook, and was informative on the Shiva Sutras. I think its good value for money, and the quality of the author's English is superb. Highly recommended for those wishing to understand a little more about the linkage between the Shiva Sutras and meditation. I took interest in this book because of my own interest in what to focus on in meditation; it doesn't give lots of details on meditation, so bear that in mind if you are trying to purchase this for guided meditation (then the book wouldn't be wholly relevant to you). Instead, it offers commentary on what are translations of special sentences known as the Shiva Sutras. The commentary is good, and well rounded. I recommend this book (as it isn't too long to read, and gets across the meaning well).
