Makes knives razor sharp
I have been using a steel to sharpen my knives for years. I thought they were fairly sharp, but after using this, I realise they were not. The difference is astonishing.Although this is a bit of a pain to initiate, as it has to be soaked for 15 minutes, it is well worth it if you are sharpening all your knives. It does make a bit of a mess, so use it where it can be easily wiped up.The knife angle guide just gets in the way. I used it initially to get an idea of the angle, but found it much easier without it once I got a feel for the angle.Initially I used too much pressure on the knife, but soon found it easier without a lighter touch.I guess the more you use it, the more you get used to it, and the easier it becomes. One thing I do know is that my knives are amazingly sharp now, and I will never use a steel again!Get this, you won’t regret it!

Purely personal opinion YMMV.
The actual quality of the piece I can't find fault with.. on pure quality I would give 5/5 and the price is equally attractive. However, personal usability is another matter. For my needs, several broad knives and cleavers, it's too narrow for me, personally, to be comfortable working with, I can, however, accept that others may be fully proficient with working with something this size. At 6cm across (the measurements were listed I should have double checked), it is aprox 1/3 -1/4 the width of my blades and is inconvenient to use, this is remedied somewhat by using it lengthwise at an angle, but then the angle guide, which at the moment I still require, becomes useless as the spines of my blades are then nowhere near the stone and the guide has nowhere to guide from.Secondly, the guide itself, ...as I understand grinding, the optimal angle of the blade should be 30 degrees so that when done on both sides the cutting edge is 15 degrees, unfortunately the guide requires a standard depth of blade to be useful as the further the spine is from the blade the higher the leverage necessary to attain the 30 degree slope, and for my blades the angle is too obtuse resulting in a very fragile and useless edge, so the guide, in my particular case, will not produce desired results even had I room on the stone to use it effectively. As I said, these issues are particular to my situation and may not be relevant to others, I will either have to gain greater proficiency, or opt for a different set.

Very good
Recently invested in some Damascus steel knives. My experience with a sharpening irons & wheel type blades hasn’t been great.I’m a novice with whet stones (I never knew you had to wet them). Nonetheless, I’ve managed to get the hang of this & my blades remain seriously sharp. It’s beautifully presented & looks good in the corner of the worktop.Don’t forget to let the stones dry properly before storing them away.If you have quality knives, this will keep them perfect. Highly recommended.
