(1) Will this work for a Yamaha P 71, and (2) does it require assembly?

The clamps are set too far apart to even begin to clamp down and secure the P-71. No this stand does not work.

This stand is extremely stable and well built. It will work for practically any full size keyboard.

Question 3

The minimum height is too high for me. Can the bottom and top horizontal bars along the narrower X segment be swapped? Anyone tried that successfully?

Swapping the bars doesn't look promising because of the welded construction and need to maintain the robust nature of the stand which is desirable to handle heavy keyboards.  The most elegant solution would be to cut another notch/tooth slot in the adjustment disc (the thing that looks like a bike sprocket--this would be akin to adding another hole in your belt.  By eyeball, adding another notch looks like it would give you a height change of about 2 to 3 inches.  The adjustment disc doesn't appear to be "file hard", so adding the new notch could be probably be done by a combination of drilling and filing (just in case you don't have more sophisticated tools available).  Note:  The resultant new tooth on the "sprocket" should be made to be as wide and strong as those already on the disc/sprocket to maintain the same strength. Alternatively, one or two metal or wooden vertical prop(s) of the appropriate length and stiffness (with a U-shaped groove on each end to fit the horizontal bars) could be made to bridge the distance between the upper and lower bars (i.e., the horizontal feet and keyboard support bars).In a prior response regarding this stand, I offered the opinion that while this stand is great for a standing musician, it's not great for a seated musician because there is no good place to put your knees.  Accordingly, I probably wouldn't put a lot of effort into modifying this stand before exploring the knee space problem by the expedient use of either an adjustable stool (as suggested by another respondent) or using a firm cushion of the appropriate thickness (there are numerous available choices in Amazon's health and automotive categories).  In my case, I switched to a columnar type stand to solve the knee space problem for extended playing in a seated position.  By the way, one of the other respondents seems to indicate that each time it is desired to adjust the height of the stand a center screw must be loosened so that the "height adjustment nub" that fits into the desired groove can be shifted to another groove and then the center screw needs to be retightened.  I may have a different model of the stand, but my stand does not require loosening and retightening of the center screw each time the height is adjusted.  My stand has a sliding release "trigger rod" near the top of one of the outboard legs near the point of attachment to the upper horizontal keyboard support bar--squeezing the trigger rod towards the horizontal bar causes the so-called nub (I.E., detent to retract, thereby allowing the stand to be easily moved to the next desired position.  Once the desired position is reached, the trigger rod is released and the detent nub locks into the desired notch.

does it work with an on stage two tier addition (ksa 7500)?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the a stage two tier addition for this stand. My use has been only as a stand for a single Yamaha YPG 235 at home.  For this application it works great because it is sturdy and stable and has no problem handling fairly heavy and wide keyboards.  In case you're planning to use it in a sitting mode, I would caution you to be aware that it is tough to find a comfortable place to put your knees.
