I'm an experienced metal machinist but this was my first time wood turning. I Bought these and am super glad I did. They use a carbide insert just like many metal cutting tools. It cuts hard woods super clean and easy. Great way to start out! When your bit gets full just loosen the screw and turn it to reveal a fresh edge. When all edges are full, throw it out (or in a carbide recycling bin if you have one) and put in a fresh bit. No fussing around with sharpening. The tool set comes with one set of replacement bits and you can get more from a machine tool supply company like Goodson.

Bought these because the full-length turning tools seemed a little clumsy on the small pieces that I was turning. I had looked at similar versions from the prime tool companies and wanted to see if there was a less expensive option in case they didn't work. Note that I have only been turning for a couple of months and am just starting to get familiar with the lathe and the techniques. These worked great and are a good value especially with the extra set of carbide cutters. Recommended.

I like the fact that I am able to change the tips and not have to sharpen them for beginners and easy to use and value for the money

Really great set of tools to work with. They are pretty heavy duty and do a great job.

I am new to wood turning and these carbide turning tools worked really well. I used them to turn two bowls already and they worked well. They were sharp and cut well. I used them to make a bowl from wet black walnut and a bowl from dry black walnut. Seems like a good starter set and you don't have to sharpen them. I haven't changed the tips yet. Seems to be good quality but again I am just starting out at wood turning.

I'm just a beginner at turning but my lathe came with some HSS chisels and these out perform them by far. I lie this set because it comes with both sharp and round pointed diamond blades. I am doing some very small things on the lathe and the pointed diamond has been invaluable for fine finishing and parting.
