100 Adventures to Have Before You Grow Up

Left me bursting with enthusiasm for exploring the great outdoors
I bought this amazing book for my 8-year-old niece during lockdown, perhaps because I am missing the chance to go camping which I love doing every summer, and I have to admit it's now a second-hand book as I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. My niece is already a fearless adventurer - she goes sailing, windsurfing, skateboarding and stand-up paddleboarding - so this book is bound to inspire her to try geo-caching, fossil-hunting and star-gazing. Personally it encouraged me to sleep in a bivvy out in the wild (I didn't know what a bivvy was before this book), have a seaweed supper and float down a river. What I loved about 100 Adventures was the diverse range of activities, from backyard ones (sleep in a hammock) to ones further afield (visit a natural wonder in the world). I found myself ticking off the adventures in the back of the book and wondering how many my niece will manage - she may have a little longer than I do before she grows up! The fact that Anna has been on some truly incredible adventures herself like running the entire length of New Zealand unsupported gives this delightful book an extra dimension - I loved its kick-ass, can-do attitude to taking on new challlenges (and, as List Lover, I loved the ticklist at the back!) The illustrations by Clair Rossiter are absolutely delightful and bring the book to life. Highly recommended for would-be adventurers of all ages.

Not always practical but interesting non the less!
This book is both entertaining and educational and children could spend hours flicking through the 100 different adventures that are on offer here. Most are practical and a good idea while a few are a bit unrealistic and not practical at all for the average child due to the childs' physical ability, lack of funds, location, to name a few. The illustrations are excellent too and each adventure has been carefully described in detail. The best adventure choices in this book in my humble opinion were "use a compass, tell spooky stories, listen and look for birds, create an upcycled herb garden & leave a trail of kindness".A few that I thought were not practical were go caving, sleep in a cave, visit a volcano, float down a river, and last but not least track wild animals."Clever options that could teach children of all abilities were be a waste warrior, do a fancy dress run, learn the name of four trees".Other options that could be tweaked to make them more practical, "write your name by walking the streets", journey to where your grandparents were born". I would say write your name by walking in your garden, write an essay about where your grandparents were born".The majority if not all these adventures would require adult supervision. Thanks to Walker Books for the ARC.

For all not just kids!
We love this book! It has inspired us as a family to get back to doing what we love after getting stuck in a rut. It's great for kids of all ages from toddler to older persons. Some activities definitely require you have money, ie. For a bike or SUP experience , but many are very accessible right out your door for free or next to nothing. If in doubt, go for it!

Fantastic book would make a lovely gift!
Purchased for my daughter, she’s really enjoyed ticking off all the activities and actively seeks to complete the challenges and experiences. Such a fun way to encourage them to get out and about and enjoy life! Would make a fab present, highly recommended.

A brilliant book of adventures
A gorgeously illustrated book with a great range of adventures, both big and small, for those who are yet to grow up (with a grown up for support where appropriate). There are adventures you can have locally, and adventures that need more planning and to go further afield. Definitely enough variety to be able to pick something suitable for right now. Highly recommend.
